Butterflies in the garden, 'Flying through Nature'. A peace art work by 7 year old Kataraina Lai-Fuimaono. This is school children's art currently on display at Johnsonville Library. The exhibition is led by Soka Gakkai International New Zealand, a Buddhist organisation promoting a better world through peace, culture and education. Some of the leading organiser's of the annual art exhibition live here in lovely Glenside.

Heritage Gardeners were delighted to host Clare Shearman of Wellington Botanic Garden at the historic Halfway House today. Clare handed over a dozen camellia she has grown from cuttings since 2022, sourced from the nearby Drake early settler garden.

A public memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Cr Tony Randle this Saturday, 1pm at Tākina.

Tony Randle, Wellington City Councillor, died in office, August 2026. Tony was a dedicated supporter of resident's associations and community groups. He attended every Glenside Progressive Assn. meeting possible, always responded to telephone calls and texts and was a great advocate for our community. Our condolences to his family, to Johnsonville Community Association, and to his fellow Councillor's. Rest in Peace Tony, from the Glenside Progressive Assn. Inc. Claire Bibby (Pres), Georgia Freeman (Vice) and the team.

Bird flu has been detected in individual wild birds in New Zealand. Know what to do to limit the impact.

Welcome home to NZ, Ryan Fox winner of the Golf 2026 Open Championship, Royal Birkdale, UK. The Watt Junior Boys golf cup pictured, is competed for across New Zealand. It was originally donated by Philip Chetwoode Watt (1876-1940) of Glenside. Mr P C Watt, an industrial builder of Scottish descent established the 9-hole golf course at Glenside in 1936. The Watt's lived in the historic Halfway House at Glenside, where the Glenside Golf Club met. The course was designed by R C Butters of Miramar Golf Club. Watt is also credited for establishing the Johnsonville Golf Club in 1912. The current Watt Cup (pictured) was donated by his son, Charles Michael Watt. Does anyone know where the Watt descendants are today?

Arb Innovations cutting cherries and stump dosing at the Glenside-Grenada north bound off-ramp today. Many thanks to Waka Kotahi - NZTA. Wellington City Council and Glenside community volunteers are progressively removing invasive wild cherries from adjacent Glenside Reserve, as part of a wider programme of work to replace pest cherries with native trees for food for native birds (to prevent birds dispersing wild cherry seed).

Contractors taking advantage of the good weather to clear up their tree felling site off Mark Avenue, adjacent to motorway today. Waka Kotahi communications team advise "The trees at the Grenada site range from 5 years old and up. The largest pine trees are between 57-59 years old. The trees are being mulched and spread out on the site, and some of the tree's logs are being exported." Waka Kotahi said "About 200 pine trees are being felled as part of our hazardous tree removal work that we are currently doing for network resilience (this ranges from saplings to larger trees). These trees have been identified as being a risk to the state highway, as they could potentially fall on the road. They are also pest trees that can smother native bush."
