SH1 over the Brynderwyn Hills is now OPEN in both directons to all vehicle types. Thank you for your patience.

To enable critical restoration work on the Brynderwyn Hills, State Highway 1 will CLOSE between Brynderwyn and Waipu (in both directions) from midnight (11:59pm) this Sunday 25 February until midnight (11:59pm) on Wed 27 Mar, subject to weather and other factors. Following reopening for the Easter period, this section of SH1 will close again from midnight (11:59pm), Tue 02 Apr until midnight (11:59pm), Sun 12 May.

During these closure periods a choice of scenic detour routes will be made available. These alternative routes are:

- Light Vehicles via Cove Rd between Kaiwaka & Waipu (trucks with trailer units not permitted) or via Paparoa Oakleigh Rd between Brynderwyn & Oakleigh (trucks with trailers up to 50 tonnes permitted).
- The preferred detour for Heavy Vehicles is using SH12 & SH14 via Dargaville (HPMV's must use this route).

Please note that for the safety of all motorists no through-traffic will be permitted to use Gorge Rd & Waipu Gorge Rd as a detour route.
