Housemates With the Horndog by Catherine Robertson is on the shelves ready to be borrowed.

Housemates With the Horndog
Catherine Robertson
Miss Lovelock's Agency for Broken Hearts #3

"Gabe and Hallie are perfect as housemates - even though he shamelessly shags around, and she's an introverted homebody. But when Hallie begins to feel that they could also be the perfect couple, will Gabe be dependable enough for her to trust with her deepest, darkest secret?

"Miss Lovelock knows that without trust, a friendship can never blossom into love. Hallie and Gabe are perfect as housemates: they don't argue, they share the chores, and they enjoy each other's company. Even though Gabe is a serial sh***er, a 'horndog' as their long-time American friend Jake likes to call him, and Hallie is an introvert, who much prefers to spend an evening at home with her books and her cat, Miguel.

"When Jake brings his stunning new girlfriend to stay, Gabe's competitive nature fires up and Hallie fears he might be about to blow their comfortable life apart. And that, for reasons she's never told anyone, would be an absolute disaster. But can she tell Gabe how much he really means to her if she can't trust him? And right now, he's behaving like the most untrustworthy person around."

The third installment in this lovely series of short novels, and I'm still enjoying them. This one might be my favourite so far.

Hooked On the One That Got Away
Catherine Robertson
Miss Lovelock's Agency for Broken Hearts #2

"He was her soul mate, but he deserted her. Now he’s back. And still keeping secrets.

"For five years, Willow and Charlie were voted ‘Most Disgustingly Happy Couple’ by their friends. Until the morning Willow woke to find a note on her Charlie had gone. It was him not her, he said. Willow mustn’t blame herself. But, of course, she does.

"A year on, and Willow keeps her dark moods at bay by wild swimming in her local river, dodging aggressive swans and speeding rowers. But just as she’s starting to feel like she’s over Charlie, he accidentally hooks her mid-swim with a fishing line, and all Willow’s old feelings resurface.

"But why won’t Charlie tell her why he left and where he’s been? What’s his secret? Willow always felt like she and Charlie were soul mates, but after the way he deserted her, can Willow ever trust him again?"

Another delightful short dip in this pool of love. I read this and the next book in the series in one afternoon, about two hours' of reading each.

If you are in need of a Justice of the Peace today, I am in Kaiwaka Library now until the library closes at 2pm.

Next week, I will be in the library on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10am to 2pm each day.

Wendy.

Justice of the Peace services at the library.

Pop in to see me anytime the flag or sign* is up at the library. I try to remember to post here to let you know when I'm "in", but I don't always manage to do that.

* see the picture - usually one or other is on display, the flag doesn't go out in high winds.

If those times don't suit, another JP in the area or I might be able to help you at a more suitable time. Our phone numbers are on the back page of the Kaiwaka Bugle (https://www.kaiwaka.co.nz/bugle/). Or, go to https://justiceofthepeace.org.nz/ and search on "kaiwaka" in the city/suburb field to find us and our contact details, so you can make an appointment.

What can a Justice of the Peace do for you?
- A JP can witness your signature on a document.
- A JP can certify copies of documents for you including cellphone texts and computer displayed results.
- A JP can administer an affidavit for you. This is a document that is sworn on oath or affirmed and is normally used in a legal proceeding.
- A JP can complete a declaration for you. This may be a statutory declaration made under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957 or some other statute which provides for this to be done.

Take a look here - http://justiceofthepeace.org.nz - for more information.

Identification - bring some form of ID with you; driver's licence, passport, fi****ms licence, 18+ card, etc. If you don't have anything suitable we can work around that, but it's easier if you have ID.

Signatures - if you have documents that need a witnessed signature (Statutory Declarations, Affidavits, and anything else where there is a space for a witness to sign in conjunction with your signature) do not SIGN your documents before you get to your JP. The JP needs to see you signing the document. All other details required to be filled in on the form before the signature (if any) can and should be completed before arrival.

Certified Copies - please bring the original AND the copy with you. Kaiwaka Library does not have copying facilities - Kaiwaka Food Mart up the road does. If the original is in electronic form (a document on your computer/phone, perhaps attached to an email), you need to be able to show that document on a screen of yours - bring your smartphone or laptop, and know how to access that document before you arrive.

Copy of IRD number - please save the document to your phone or computer before printing, so you can show that saved file to compare against the printed version.

KiwiSaver - read through your document and the associated instructions carefully to make sure you have everything needed. Every provider is different in the associated documents you need to supply to prove you are you. Bring the whole document including the instructions, not just the page you will be signing, and copies and originals of any identity documents required.

Statutory Declarations and Affidavits - if there are "exhibits" mentioned in the document, bring those with you as well as the full document you'll be signing.

Passport applications - a JP is needed ONLY if you need to complete the Statutory Declaration part of the form. Your identity witness must be someone who has known you for at least a year, AND has a current NZ passport. That is not me at present.

18+ Card applications - this is now called the Kiwi Access Card. A JP is no longer needed for this. If your application form says you need one, you have the old form and need to use the new one. Go to https://kiwiaccess.co.nz/ to find out more.

Rates Rebate applications no longer needs a JP to witness your signature.

Our services as JPs are a community service and are offered free of charge.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is on our shelves waiting to be borrowed, and the rest of the series is coming soon.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet
Becky Chambers
Wayfarers #1

"When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn’t expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy, and distance from her troubled past.

"But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptillian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running. Life on board is chaotic, but more or less peaceful – exactly what Rosemary wants.

"Until the crew are offered the job of a lifetime: the chance to build a hyperspace tunnel to a distant planet. They’ll earn enough money to live comfortably for years… if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful.

"But Rosemary isn’t the only person on board with secrets to hide, and the crew will soon discover that space may be vast, but spaceships are very small indeed."

Loved this! And just ordered the rest of the 4-book series for my library, plus a few more. Can't wait. :-)

Stuck With the Hot Boss by Catherine Robertson is on the shelves ready to be borrowed.

Stuck With the Hot Boss
Catherine Robertson
Miss Lovelock's Agency for Broken Hearts #1

"Don't fall for the wrong guy.
"Especially when he's your new boss.

"Evie's always fallen for a certain type of guy, and every single one of them has broken her heart. So, when Leo is brought in as her new boss, Evie's first reaction is "Uh oh". He seems like her exact type, only hotter. Will she make yet another mistake?

"But as she quickly discovers, Leo's also distant and demanding, with absolutely no sense of humor. Evie's sure she's totally safe from falling for him.

"It's only when Miss Locklock's team takes charge of the pair's romantic destiny that Evie starts to see a whole different side of Leo.

"Will this be yet another success for Miss Lovelock, or has Evie been burned too many times to take a risk with her hot boss?"

Lovely little a-little-bit-spicy story, just what I needed at the time. Looking forward to the next two installments, which are lined up ready to be read.
