We had a wonderful week-long Onam celebration at school, with students coming together for a Pookalam (flower carpet) competition across form classes, an Onam meal and food tasting, and fun traditional games including tug of war and the lemon-and-spoon race. It was a lovely celebration of one of India’s rich cultural traditions and, most importantly, a festival of togetherness, unity and community.

“Ko 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga”
“Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.”

To celebrate Tongan Language Week, our students led a range of cultural activities, including our very first ‘Ouau Kava — a traditional Kava Ceremony.

Earlier this year, during our trip to Tonga, many of our students had the opportunity to experience a Kava Ceremony as guests. This time, the roles had changed — our students stepped up to lead and run the ceremony themselves.

We are incredibly proud to see our students taking the lead, sharing their learning, and celebrating the richness of our Tongan culture. 🇹🇴❤️

Last Friday all students from Years 7 to 10 competed in the KKC Maths Quiz, with our outstanding senior students giving up their time throughout the day to be their judges. All year groups were highly competitive, often with the winners equal on points and only able to be separated by time taken.
