Kawakawa Playcentre

Kawakawa Playcentre Parent Run Early Childhood Centre Playcentre philosophy is based on the ideas of child-initiated play and parents as first educators.

Playcentre is an early childhood education service, run as a parent co-operative, which commits to the following in order to ensure the quality of early childhood education in each session:
• learning through play
• birth to school age
• mixed ages sessions
• family involvement
• other policies and philosophies as decided by the annual national conference. Because sessions are run as a co-ope

rative, parents meet out of session to share experiences and information about the children, and meet the business needs of an early childhood centre. Decisions are usually done by consensus, to ensure all members feel heard and understood. Everyone is expected to take responsibility for something, depending on their capabilities and availability. Tuesday & Thursday. 9.30 - 12.30
Wednesday. 9.30 - 12.30 (extended session for over 3 yr olds)

This Monday we celebrate, give thanks to and farewell our Playcentre Session Facilitator Michelle on her last Monday Session. Her amazing dedication and creativity has helped keep our centre's door open through many challenging time over the last decade. If you are a past member and would like to come farewell Michelle, We are hosting a little celebration for her this Monday (24th), 9am til 1pm.

Hello Playcentre Whanau ❤️
Last week we came to the consensus to pause our Wednesday session for the remainder of Term 3.
This reflects the slower winter season and the energy our dedicated familys have at this time.

Monday sessions will continue as usual with Michelle and Rachel's support. 9am til 1pm so join us then to stay in touch and meet our new babies!

The hope is to reopen the Wednesday session (or alternative day for second session) in Term 4 with renewed energy and some newborn arrivals.

WEDNESDAY 24th June (Tomorrow)
🎭 We are on, 9am til 1pm, with our visiting Librarian to host Storytime at 10.30am.

MONDAY 29th June,
🥣 End of term soup making. Bring a veg to add to the pot, practice kitchen skills and share a winter meal.

WEDNESDAY 1 July
Last day of Term 2.
🧹Clean up and shared lunch and decorate for Matariki
- Kawakawa Primary School night market on in the evening from 5pm. ⭐️

We hope all our village Whanau enjoy a reflective and optimistic new year and indulge and celebrate in the many Matariki festivities.

Kawakawa Library is hosting a bunch of Matariki Holiday Program activities. We encourage family to go along and get some awesome skills and creations.

Hi all, a reminder that the Seed, Crop & Knowledge Swap is on again this Saturday June 6th from 10am till Noon. It will then break for a few months and return in Sept. 💚

The playcentre planting bee is postponed till spring, so hold onto those plants. Come for a swap, a hot drink and hangout instead; to warm into the winter. Happy Days.
