Kumeroa-Hopelands School is a rural primary school situated 10 minutes from Woodville and approximately 30 minutes from Palmerston North. The school was formed after an education area review resulted in the amalgamation of Kumeroa and Hopelands Schools in 1994 and the merger with Kohinui School in 2008. We are a full primary, decile 5 school with a role between 40 and 60 students.

Community Spirit & Classroom Learning at Kumeroa School! 🐾

Our tamariki have been busy in the kitchen, baking delicious treats for the local Shepherds competing in the annual Kumeroa Dog Trials!

This heartfelt gesture was a wonderful way for our students to give back to the community while earning hours toward their William Pike Challenge goal of 20 hours of service.

The learning didn't stop at the oven door, either! Our bakers put their classroom skills to the test by applying their knowledge of sequential writing to their recipes and incorporating transitional words they’ve been studying into their work. It was a fantastic day of connecting our school values with real world service and literacy.

Best of luck to all the competitors and their clever dogs this weekend! 🐶🥇

Huge congratulations to Tony Hudson & Rachel Jones on an incredible night at the 2026 Hawke’s Bay/Wairarapa Dairy Awards! 🏆🐄

Tony and Rachel were named 2026 Hawke’s Bay/Wairarapa Share Farmers of the Year and also took home seven Merit Awards

• ASB Business Performance Award
• Trelleborg Sustainable Pasture Award
• Property Brokers Environmental Sustainability Award
• LIC – Animal Wellbeing, Recording and Productivity Award
• Honda Farm Safety, Health & Biosecurity Award
• Federated Farmers Leadership Award
• DairyNZ – People & Culture Award

This outstanding achievement reflects their hard work, skill, and dedication to the dairy industry.

We’re incredibly lucky as a school to have Tony and Rachel in our corner. Through the Calf Club they run, our kids get hands-on learning experiences, feeding and caring for animals while building confidence and practical skills that only real farm life can offer.

Their generosity and commitment make a real difference for our tamariki and our community.

Well done Tony and Rachel! we’re so proud of you both! 👏🌱

🍦 Splash, Sun, and Surprises! ☀️

What a day! Our Rural School’s Swimming Sports was a massive success, full of sunshine, healthy competition, and some seriously impressive strokes in the pool. 🏊‍♂️💦

Just when we thought the day couldn't get any better, we received a cooling surprise! A huge THANK YOU to Bryce at Woodville Four Square for the delicious ice blocks. They were the perfect refreshing treat after all that hard work in the water! 🍧🙌

We are so lucky to have such an amazingly supportive community behind us. Cheers for keeping our swimmers (and their smiles) extra cool!!!

What an awesome day at Kumeroa School’s Triathlon! It was fantastic to see every single student out there giving it their all, cheering each other on, and showing exactly what makes our school community so special. We’re incredibly lucky to have access to a pool on site, and a huge thank‑you goes to the Kumeroa Education Trust for the work they do behind the scenes to keep it running for our kids.

A special shout‑out to Bessie, who smashed Lily McLeod’s long‑standing (8 year) record in the Elite race- outpacing the boys by a large margin and in doing so, becoming the first girl to get her name on the Triathlon trophy. An outstanding achievement and a moment to remember.

A brilliant day of participation, perseverance, and pride. Go team Kumeroa!

🌊🌲 KUMEROA SCHOOL CAMP 2026 – EL RANCHO ADVENTURE 🌲🌊

What happens when you take an entire small rural school, add incredible parent support, throw in El Rancho, Waikanae… and mix it with courage, laughter, mud, teamwork and a whole lot of heart?

✨ Magic. Absolute magic. ✨

From our youngest learners to our Year 8 leaders, EVERY single student stepped up, had a go, and supported one another. Kayaking, river tubing, beach explorations, team challenges, confidence-building activities, late-night giggles, sandy shoes and proud smiles, this camp had it all.

One of the greatest strengths of Kumeroa School is that we go together.

All ages. All abilities. One team.

Our older students showed outstanding leadership, encouraging and guiding our younger tamariki. Our younger students showed bravery that blew us away. The way they cheer each other on? That’s the Kumeroa way.

And let’s talk about our whānau ❤️

We simply could not do this without our incredible parent helpers. The generosity of time, energy and encouragement created such a strong sense of community. Camp isn’t just a trip away, it’s a reminder of what makes small schools so special.

At Kumeroa School:
✔️ Every child is known.
✔️ Every child is valued.
✔️ Every child gets opportunities to lead, explore and grow.
✔️ Every family is part of the journey.

Camp at El Rancho wasn’t just about activities, it was about building resilience, friendships, independence and confidence that will carry our students forward.

If you’re looking for a school where your child isn’t just a number… where leadership opportunities begin early… where community truly matters… where learning extends far beyond the classroom…
Kumeroa School is something special.

We are so proud of our tamariki. And so grateful for our whānau.

Bring on the next adventure. 🌟

What an exciting way to start the day at Kumeroa School! 🎉🌳

A huge THANK YOU to John from Beale Trucking, who rolled in this morning with a fresh load of bark for our playground.

The kids were buzzing watching the truck arrive!

Special shout-out to our "site manager" Joey, who was on hand directing John to exactly the right delivery spots around the playground, teamwork at its best 👏🚜

We’re so grateful for the support from our awesome local community.

Our play areas are about to get a whole lot softer, safer and more fun!

🌱🥕 From Garden to Platter 🥬🌈

During Term 4, 2025 our students rolled up their sleeves and did it all. Weeding, planting, caring for, and proudly growing their very own carefully planned garden beds 🌿💪

On Friday, all that hard work came full circle as they treated the whole school to a beautiful platter of goodness. A true rainbow of colour, freshly picked from the garden, then cooked and prepared by the students themselves 🍅🥗🫑

What a special way to celebrate learning, teamwork, patience, and the joy of sharing. We are so proud of our students and the care they showed from soil to plate 💚👏

Incredible work from artist, Joe Mcmenamin who worked alongside our students to design and then paint this masterpiece- with many elements a true reflection of the creativity of our students in our rural NZ school.

Many thanks to Sport Manawatu with your financial support for this project... increasing the use of the wall for sports was the goal and I think it is fair to say the pests on that wall don't stand a chance, the orienteering challenge will be well enjoyed. . . And that's just THIS side of the wall! The other side features many MORE opportunities and invitations to play!

2026 will start with this stunning backdrop to enjoy every day!

🎅📬 Special Delivery at Kumeroa School! 📬🎅

This morning, our very own local postie Mitch arrived with the most exciting parcel of all… Santa himself! 🎄✨

Fresh from the North Pole (and bravely battling the Kumeroa sunshine and heat!), Santa brought surprises, gifts, and a whole lot of festive wisdom for our lucky students.

The smiles, laughter, and Christmas magic were absolutely priceless! 🎁☀️

A huge thank you to Mitch for delivering such Christmas cheer straight to our school! 🎅📮🎄
