Our school gardens just got a serious upgrade, and it’s all thanks to your "compostable trash", and Auckland Councils Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund! A massive thank you to everyone who contributed to the collection of compostable ingredients. We asked for compostables, and boy, did you deliver. The back deck was filled with some truly weird and wonderful offerings.
🛠️ The Dream Team in Action
Tim and Richard, founder of The Carbon Cycle Compost Company, arrived this morning with our new 3-stage system. A huge shout out to Oliver and Perry, who rolled up their sleeves and helped with the installation. Tim and Richard were honestly blown away by how capable and hard-working these two were.
The learning didn't stop there. Once installed, our Year 5 students attended a hands on workshop, led by Tim, where they mastered the "Perfect Recipe." They learned how to layer Browns (Carbon) and Greens (Nitrogen) like pro chefs, starting with the brown layer on the bottom, and finished with a brown layer on top. The Carbon Cycle team was impressed by their focus, pre-existing knowledge, and their great questions. Our soil and system is definitely in safe hands.
This incredible addition to our school was made possible thanks to a grant from the Auckland Council’s Waste Minimisation & Innovation Fund, which is aimed at helping communities to divert waste away from landfills. We are so grateful for the support in helping us go green!
Our Enviroschool kaupapa is alive and thriving!
