Horowhenua NZ

Horowhenua NZ When you visit Horowhenua you cannot escape the convergence of history, future, peace and adventure. Horowhenua is a place that is awakening to its potential.

Boasting the shortest distance in Aotearoa from mountains to sea and host to the only perpendicular dune system in the world, Horowhenua has long been valued for its unique and fertile whenua. Horowhenua's unique microcosm has given birth to a wealth of food producers, with Horowhenua often referred to as the North Island's vegetable bowl. Home to Muaūpoko, Ngāti Raukawa Ki te Tonga and Rangitāne,

Horowhenua has a rich cultural heritage. From stories of the fabled Waitaha people at 7 feet tall, Patupaiarehe or fairy people thought to have inhabited the Makahika Valley, to sophisticated tree forts and warriors said to possess the ability to walk on water – the Horowhenua holds many taonga close to its heart.

Nestled in rural Ōhau, Brent and Jude have created something pretty special.

Not just a gourmet mushroom farm, but a peaceful little sanctuary – complete with wetlands, animals, native plantings, and a strong focus on sustainability.

Brent and Jude's new bookable group tours are designed for schools, community organisations, not-for-profits and other groups wanting to learn more about sustainable growing and the circular systems that sit at the heart of the farm.

A chance to slow down, reconnect with the land and see a different way of doing things.

If you’re looking for something a bit different with the kids…

There’s a bookshop in Foxton with Narnia, Wonderland, Neverland, a hobbit hole, and plenty to explore.

Add a cosy couch, a coffee nook, and a cat – and you’re set!

A working windmill, here in Foxton.

Yeah, it’s pretty iconic.

At De Molen, the wind turns the sails, the sails turn the stones, and the stones grind the flour – a process that hasn’t changed in generations.

The team are looking for a bit of support to keep the sails going, so visitors, school groups, and future generations can continue to experience it for years to come.
