Still looking for the right home for Winstone 🐾

Winstone is now around 3½ months old and, to our surprise, we haven’t had any enquiries for him lately, which is hard to believe once you meet him.

We think he may be a Heading Dog x Collie (just our best guess), and he’s shaping up to be a great little companion. He’s well socialised with other dogs, mostly toilet trained, and absolutely loves to play.

Because he’s grown up around other dogs, we think he’d do best in a home where he has a dog buddy to keep him company and burn off that puppy energy.

He’s a fun, affectionate pup who just needs someone to give him a chance.

South Manakau Road Closure 🚧

We’re working with Higgins to carry out an important bridge deck replacement on South Manakau Road. This is to keep things safe and fit for purpose.

What you need to know:
→ This work will take place between Tuesday 23 June and Tuesday 21 July (approx. 4 weeks)
→ This will be a full road closure (24/7)
→ Our contractors will be working between the hours of: 7am – 6pm, Monday to Friday (with some weekend work)

Detour route: (4+mins)
Manakau Heights Drive → Honi Taipua Street → Mokena Kohere Street → back to SH1

Please allow a bit of extra travel time and follow the detour signage, we know it’s a hassle (sorry!), but this mahi is essential to keep our infrastructure strong and safe for everyone.

Ngā mihi for your patience and understanding while we get this done. Please also be mindful that the detour takes you past a school.

Matariki is almost here, a time to reflect, connect and celebrate together.
We’ve got a great line-up of Matariki events across Horowhenua and we’d love to see you there.

Puanga, meaning 'the abundance of food,' symbolises a period of celebration and reflection, marking the time to observe the Maramataka, a traditional calendar guiding fishing, planting, and bird migrations. It honours the cycles of growth and harvest in the māra (gardens) and acknowledges departed loved ones whose spirits ascend to become stars. Puanga is a time for learning, renewing faith, and fostering hope for the future. While some iwi view Puanga as signaling the onset of the New Year, Matariki, appearing shortly after, marks its commencement.

In Horowhenua, we are fortunate to witness both Puanga and Matariki in our skies.

The Foxton Water tower will be lit up orange this weekend in support of those participating in the 40-Hour Challenge.

They are challenging you to go offline for 40 hours and raise funds so children in Solomon Islands can get the nutritious food they need. Whether it’s no phone, gaming, social media, or even power. You get to choose what you’ll do and how you’ll do it.

Update on Tiro Tiro Road Wastewater Treatment Plant Inlet Pipe and Bulk Main Upgrades 👇0

Work to upgrade Levin’s wastewater system and water main is progressing well. To safely continue this work, a full road closure is now required.

What’s happening:
From Monday 22 June, Tiro Tiro Road is fully closed between Greenville Street and Trafalgar Street.
Detours are signposted. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time

What to expect:
• Property access may change at times - we’ll work with you and keep you informed
• Parking near the work zone will be limited. Please avoid coned areas
• If you usually park nearby, a quick reminder to move vehicles by 7:30am so crews can get started safely
• Some daytime construction noise is expected - we’ll do our best to keep disruption to a minimum.

Our team will keep in touch directly if work affects your driveway and may pop by for a chat. Feel free to kōrero with the crew on site anytime.

We know roadworks aren’t easy. Thanks for your patience and for looking out for our team on site. These upgrades will help future-proof our ageing infrastructure, protect our waterways, and support our growing community.
