Today we celebrate someone who does so much more than lead a school.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Matua Lee, for your unwavering dedication to our tamariki, our whānau, our kai ako and our school hapori.

Your kindness, integrity, and genuine care are felt in every corner of our school. You lead with humility, compassion, and aroha, creating a place where every child knows they belong and staff members feel appreciated.

You ensure every child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to thrive. You are the kind of man our tamariki can look up to. A role model who leads by example, lifts others up, and reminds us all of the importance of manaakitanga, respect, and caring for one another.

Thank you for making our school a place where people feel safe, supported, and proud to belong.

Happy Principal Appreciation Day. We appreciate you today and every day.

On Tuesday, we had the privilege of welcoming Du'Plessis Kirifi to our kura.

Our ākonga enjoyed an engaging Q&A session, where Du'Plessis shared his experiences, insights, and advice before leading a skills session with our Touch teams.

Thank you to Du'Plessis for taking the time to inspire and connect with our students. Thanks also to Matua Lee, Rutherford & Bond Toyota, and Joshua Hoffman for organising this fantastic opportunity for our kura.

Tomorrow we say farewell to our amazing Deputy Principal, and one of Dyer Street School’s finest, Ms Meg Waghorn.

Meg has been a Release Teacher, Deputy Principal, and SENCo during her 6 years working at our kura. She has made a huge impact on our community and school over that time and we are going to miss her dearly. We know that Meg’s commitment to tamariki will continue in her exciting new role at Mana Mokopuna and we know she will be a huge asset to her new workplace.

We will be holding a special assembly to celebrate Ms Waghorn tomorrow at 2pm. All our community is welcome to attend. Seating will be limited so please get there early.

Ngā mihi

What an epic performance from our roopu at Huttfest today! Our new Kākahu looked amazing, and our tamariki left everything on the stage, giving it their all.

We are so very proud of how they represented our kura today.

In particular, a special mention to the tamariki who took on leadership roles as those moments helped to bridge our waiata and haka together seamlessly.

A huge thanks to Whaea Penny, and Matua Whatiri for their support and leadership of this group. To the kaimahi who supported back stage, helping with costumes, moko and crowd control- ngā mihi kia koutou.

Another highlight was performing our school haka “ He kura haumaru” for the first time to our whānau and community.

A final thanks to our whānau for their support in getting the tamariki to school early, and for filling the seats at Walter Nash..

Mauri ora!
