School Grounds Closed This Weekend.
Construction Work at School
The school grounds will be closed this weekend. The long awaited ramp modification for disability access to the top field and top court is finally starting. Nautical Marine Construction will have heavy machinery for demolition work and so it is not safe for community use of the grounds.

Office Manager: Whaea Toni
Whaea Toni has the final accolade this 2026 Support Staff Week. Whaea Toni is the heart of our school. The title ‘Office Manager’ is woefully inadequate in capturing the magic that is Whaea Toni’s mahi at school… perhaps “Wonder-Woman-Miracle-Maker-Compassionate- Healer-Fixer-Upper-Problem-Tackler-Admin-Queen” is a more accurate title. Whaea Toni is all things to all people that make up our beautiful community. It’s a miracle that she gets her own tasks done at all when she’s so busy helping everyone. Her ability to pivot each day responding to the unexpected things that always arise in a school day is astounding. She has a heart of pure gold with an abundance of care and aroha for the children and adults in our community. She embodies everything that is great about our school and you will experience it every time you come to the office.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Whaea Toni.

Ka Ora Ka Ako
Kitchen Manager/Chef/Garden to Table Coordinator: Whaea Carol
Every school day tamariki enjoy a delicious, healthy kai prepared by Whaea Carol. She is incredibly organised and efficient in planning menus, managing all aspects of the kitchen including the health and safety requirements for our commercial kitchen. Most of all, Whaea Carol is loved because she’s always gentle, and kind, she always has a smile making everyone feel loved, and welcomed to the wharekai. She gives her very best every single day, and willing to lend a helping hand at any time. Whaea Carol works hard to see our tamariki grow and thrive, and to understand and enjoy healthy eating. She has a strong heart and passion to serve the Arakura community and she does so generously through the Garden to Table and Fundraising Committee. Thank you Whaea Carol for your love, care, heart and passion for our school.

Kitchen Assistant: Whaea Sarah
Whaea Sarah has a wicked sense of humour and a laugh that’s contagious for anyone lucky to be in her company. Whaea Sarah is such a hard worker, nothing is too hard for her. She takes pride in her mahi and always has a smile, kind words, and a warm heart to share. Whenever extra help is needed somewhere, Whaea Sarah will always say ‘yes’ and shows up to support. We have seen Whaea Sarah’s care and diligence in the way she’s sorted the mountain of lost property to ensure the lost items are recycled back into the community for good use. If Whaea Carol is away, Sarah steps in to run the kitchen efficiently and meticulously. She serves the kai to tamariki with a smile, taking time to interact with them and to encourage them to try new foods. Thank you Whaea Sarah for all the love and care you put into your mahi – we appreciate you.

Kitchen Relieving Staff: Whaea Lily and Whaea Vicki
Whaea Lily and Whaea Vicki are two parent volunteers who regularly help in Breakfast Club as well as Fundraising Committee. They are also casual staff who cover the kitchen when someone is away in the kitchen. Thank you so much Lily and Vicki for making yourselves available, often at the last minute, to ensure lunch is ready on time for hungry tamariki after a long morning of learning. We love the way you just muck in with everyone as part of the team and the way you bring your bubbly positive energy to the wharekai. Thank you so much Whaea Lily and Whaea Vicki for your contribution to Arakura School – you deserve to be acknowledged and thanked on this Support Staff Week, ka nui te mihi me te aroha ki a kōrua.

Today we are sharing our Manaaki Team.
The Manaaki Team is all our non-classroom support staff who do an equally vital role at Arakura School.

Caretaker: Matua Mike
Mike is our superhero. He is here, there, and everywhere ensuring our school environment is safe and tidy. He is highly efficient and meticulous in everything he does - no job is too big or difficult for Matua Mike. He is always happy and willing to support kaiako and tamariki with special projects particularly around our mara kai and looks for solutions for the most tricky problems. He has such a positive attitude, he is incredibly humble and kind hearted, he exemplifies our school values, and is a dedicated member of Team Arakura.
We appreciate you so much Matua, thank you for your mahi as Caretaker for Arakura.

The Heart of Piki te Ora

Piki te Ora is a programme where we meet each child with care,
Planting seeds of confidence and showing they belong there.
Wrapping tamariki in aroha so they feel safe and known,
Even when the world feels loud, they are never on their own.
Aimee, you are the tōtara, steady, strong, and wise,
A grounding force for tamariki beneath the changing skies.
With roots that run so deep and a spirit calm and wide,
You are the safe and steady place where little hearts can hide.
Julie, you bring the richness of your culture and your soul,
With service, respect, and alofa helping make us whole.
Your warmth and deep connection light and fill each room,
Bringing life and aroha into every learning room.
Laura, you bring the magic and gentleness of earth,
Nurturing tiny seedlings and showing them their worth.
With caring hands and patient love, you help our children bloom,
Bringing life and calm connection into every learning room.
Nikita, you bring the quiet, a calm and gentle light,
A peaceful steady presence that helps make things feel right.
With soft and caring guidance, you help take fear away,
Helping tamariki find their strength a little more each day.
Together you are Piki te Ora, a korowai woven strong,
A tapestry of kindness where every child belongs.
Four hearts with one shared purpose: to help our tamariki rise,
Held safely in the aroha of the Arakura skies.

Whare Piringa
Whaea Jess
The tamariki in Whare Piringa are so lucky to have you Jess! Jess has such a calm and patient presence and has formed such positive and trusting relationships with our kids. Working with our tamariki takiwātanga requires an ability to understand and respect that every child communicates in their own unique way. Jess has an amazing gift for 'tuning in' to our kids, listening with patience and responding with kindness. There is never a problem too hard to solve, or a challenge she won't accept! Jess has a wealth of knowledge to contribute to our classroom, and is always ready and willing to offer advice or guidance to help others out. Jess, your enthusiasm in celebrating each child's success is contagious, and I love how positive you are!! Thank you for being the person to find the fun and laughter in the often messy, and chaotic day!

Whaea Narns
Narns, what a gift you are for the children in Whare Piringa! Narns has endless patience and a calm and caring nature that builds such deep trust with students and their whānau. Narns will celebrate every success, no matter how small it might seem! She is such a champion for our kids - always advocating loudly for their needs and finding ways to connect with them to meet their learning goals. She works tirelessly to come up with new ways to engage our students with learning and to plan and prepare work for them. Narns is able to read situations so well, and notice what needs to be done, before it's needed! She is a problem solver, so creative and intuitive - she is the glue that holds Whare Piringa together. Narns is the person who keeps me grounded on the tough days and makes me laugh through the chaotic ones - I literally could not do the job without her! My right (and sometimes left!) arm, I'm so grateful for you Narns!
