Friendly Reminder | Enrolments for 2027 are open for in-zone applications in Years 9-13, and out-of-zone applications in Years 10-13. All enrolments must be completed online: https://hvhs.school.nz/how-to-enrol/

Subject selection for enrolled Year 8 students and bookings for enrolment conversations are also open. We strongly recommend enrolling early - popular enrolment conversation booking times fill up quickly, and some subject options have limited places.

Please feel free to share this post. Thank you!

We're looking for reader/writers to assist students with learning differences and disabilities during their exams and assessments. As a reader/writer you’ll get the satisfaction of helping support students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, physical disability or a sports injury to their writing hand!

What’s involved? Volunteers are needed at HVHS during school hours, especially in September for year 10 & 11 literacy and numeracy assessments and from October to December for end-of-year assessments.

A reader/writer might help for 2-3 hours each term or up to 10 exams a year. We’ll match your availability and willingness to our student’s schedules. You can also say no if a day/date doesn’t suit you. If you are used for the NCEA exams in November, then training and payment will also be provided by NZQA.

We’re looking for volunteers with clear spoken English, good reading skills, and either good handwriting or the computer skills to quickly type answers and navigate around an online exam.

Training will be provided, and acceptance is subject to a satisfactory Police check. Contact Sharyn Heathcote at [email protected] to learn more.

Please note - this volunteering opportunity isn't available to our current students.

It's a big week for Pacific languages at HVHS as we're also celebrating Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga – Tonga Language Week. 🇹🇴 🌟 The 2026 theme for Tonga Language Week is Ko 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga - "Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture".

🌺 A great way to get involved is to learn a few phrases in lea faka-Tonga (the Tongan language), or listen to music by the many talented Tongan musicians.

🇵🇭 Filipino Language Week | HVHS and our TALA Filipino Club are excited to celebrate Filipino Language Week. The official theme this year is: “Paglinang sa Wikang Filipino at Kulturang Pilipino: TALA ng Pagkakaisa at Pagkakakilanlan”.

This theme celebrates Filipino language and culture as important parts of our identity, while bringing our community together through cultural appreciation and unity.

During this week’s Mentor Time, students will take part in a Philippine-themed quiz featuring fun questions about Filipino language, food, traditions, culture, and national symbols.

Join us in celebrating Filipino culture! 🇵🇭

📸 100th Open Day | Thanks to years of dedicated work by Judith Gardiner, the archiving team, and past archivists, a century of school history was on display in the Library, B Block, and the Decade Rooms at the 100th Open Day.

The historical exhibits brought together generations of memories, sparking reflection and fantastic conversations, especially between our current students, and visiting alumni and former staff.
