Kia ora tātou katoa! 🇳🇿✨
In the spirit of Anzac, let’s go the extra mile to look after our homes and loved ones by keeping fire safety top of mind this autumn.
👉 ONE PRESS! ⏰
Daylight Saving has ended, which means it’s time for a quick safety check. Pressing that test button on your smoke alarms takes seconds.
Think about the alternative: repairing a fire-damaged house, fighting with insurance, finding temporary accommodation, and rebuilding is exhausting. Worse still, we can never replace a life. Let’s do the easy thing today—press the button!
🛑 If your alarms are outdated, replace the batteries or upgrade to new ones (don't forget to test wireless inter-linked alarms too!).
As we settle into the cooler months, here is your quick Autumn Fire Safety Checklist:
🍂 Clear the Leaves: Dry leaves are perfect fuel for fires. Rake them up and keep them at least 10 metres away from your house.
🛌 Electric Blankets: Check them for frayed cords or damage before using them, and always turn them off when you get out of bed.
🔥 Fireplaces: Clear out bird's nests and creosote buildup from your chimneys and flues. Keep all flammable items well away from open sparks.
Heater Metre Rule:** Keep everything—curtains, clothes, and furniture—at least one metre away from your heaters.
🚜 Burn Piles: Planning a controlled autumn burn? Do it early in the day and log it first at Check It's Alright to save our local FENZ volunteers an unnecessary callout! 🚒
