Today was a far cry from the rainstorm of last year. Instead - two course records were broken and this year’s median times across all the age-gender groups were approx a minute faster. It is important to note that the race lines this year all had 170+ kids but if you do not make it within a cutoff time, your result does not end up recorded. We are proud of every single runner today from our Mangawhai team; each student ran, pushing through something huge be it sickness, tiredness from sport the day before, self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy amongst some legendary competitors who have broken records across New Zealand and Australia, injury or getting tripped or knocked about in the race. The cherry on top was placing 12th in the official school relays coming in only seconds behind St Kent’s Boys School, who we had nice chats with in the holding area. That is the proof that our country kids can really hold their own🔥. Many thanks to our sponsor Industrial Athletic for sponsoring this year AIMS XC racing tops.

Inter-School Cross-Country 2026 | Barge Park, Whangārei

We sent a strong contingent of runners to Whangārei this year to represent our school at the Inter-School Cross-Country Championship. Competing against nearly 65 schools and fields of up to 200 runners per race, our students gave it everything they had.

Whether tackling a high-level course for the first time or leading the pack at the front, every runner showed incredible grit and determination.

What a day for our MBS Tournament of Minds teams!

On Saturday, three teams headed to the Regional Tournament of Minds Competition at Auckland Dio for a brilliant day of creativity, teamwork and some seriously clever thinking.

Our Year 6 team had an incredible result, taking out the entire STEM category, beating all of the intermediate AND high school teams along the way! An amazing achievement for our youngest team...meaning they're now preparing to head off to Wellington to compete at the National competition on September 12th!

To top it off, both our Year 6 and Year 8 teams were awarded the coveted Spirit of TOM award, recognising their awesome CREW values, teamwork and kindness they showed throughout the competition.

We couldn’t be prouder of all three teams and the way they represented Mangawhai Beach School. Ka mau te wehi!

A huge thank you to all the parents and adults who helped with transport, support and looking after everyone there on the day, we really appreciate you!

It’s lambing time again at Bream Tail Farm, which means we’ll soon have a few of our little orphan lambs looking for new homes.

Perfect for Ag Day lambs, lifestyle-block lawnmowers, paddock companions 🌱🐑

Our orphans will generally be available as newborns, so they’ll need bottle feeding, warmth and a bit of TLC before they’re ready to graduate to the paddock. A great little project for the kids and a proper bit of country life.

Are you a master multitasker who thrives at the heart of a vibrant community? Mangawhai Beach School is looking for a friendly, organized, and proactive Office Administrator to start in Term 4 to help keep our school day running smoothly!

The Role:

Hours: 4 days per week (Mon–Thu), 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (30 hours/week)

What You’ll Be Doing:

The Welcome Face: Warmly greeting visitors, managing front desk reception, answering calls, and administering basic first aid for our students.

Tech & Student Admin: Handling enrolments (ENROL), attendance, confidential medical records, and parent-teacher bookings via Hero.

School Shop & Procurement: Managing uniform/stationery stock and processing Kindo, EFTPOS, and cash sales.

Finance & Operations Support: Accurate logging of fees linked with Kindo/Hero, coordinating courier packages, managing bus changes, and supporting staff.

What We’re Looking For:

Outstanding communication and customer service skills

High level of discretion and commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality with student and family records and information.

Strong administrative and technical savvy experience in a school environment would be helpful not but essential. We use Hero, ENROL, Kindo and Apple Mac software.

A calm, caring demeanor when looking after injured or unwell pupils

A flexible, team-player attitude ready to support staff, parents, and kids alike
