Will be posting photos of the Mutt Park's layout and landscape design. We've taken the best of the best features of other dog parks around the world, tweaked it for what the volunteers dogs have shown they want and think we have come up with a design all dogs will enjoy.
It includes a small dog area, group play, adventure, agility, large sized dogs, training area, pet memorial grove, mobility challenged owners, bbq and shade areas. If your dog loves citypet canine adventures, the design for Manga Mutt Park will please every breed of dog.

Volunteers and their dogs are creating it. As soon as it's finished everyone will be able to enjoy it. Volunteer start date will be posted soon.

What's happening with the Mutt Park?
Recent events held at the Mutt Park resulted in the driveway and central walkway being damaged, restricting access and delaying the start of volunteer season.

During winter, 18 semi truck loads of sandstone was delivered and spread on the first 1/4 mile into the Mutt Park to the off leash area. The damage made access past the off leash entry gates and onto the central walkway impossible.

This being the busiest time of year with local contractors booked months ahead doing hay, silage, maize and reseeding pasture, things were looking bleak.

Huge thanks to Mark Brgrave of Lifestyle Block Services and Shaun of Mangawhai Hire Centre for saving the day. Shaun organised it and Mark saddled up his tractor, made time on his busy schedule and graded the length of the central runway (1/4 mile long).

The driveway and central walkway have been repaired and access to the Mutt Park area is open. Yehah!!!
Volunteers are sorting out the best date for all to have the first meeting for the season on.
As soon as a date is decided details will be posted. We look forward to meeting new volunteers and their dogs. *S

Manga Mutt Park dogs were excited that a famous dog owner was arriving in town this week. A few had been practising their greet and wag skills.... unfortunately Sunny was unable to visit Mangawhai with her owner, but none the less the Manga Mutts put their best paw forwards.

A closed group has been set up for the Manga Mutt Park Volunteers.... a place to post ideas, suggestions.and discuss what we're creating.
The Mutt Park page will continue to post progress updates for the community, but the work behind the scenes, the nuts, bolts and nitty gritty of creating a space for dogs to visit is more suited to a closed group page.
If any volunteer hasn't seen their invite to join the group, please pm me and I'll sort it out.
Thanks everyone..

VOLUNTEERS This Sunday, 9.00am 18 Feb.
Pick what project you'd like to help with, something to fit all skills and physical levels.
We need people to check ease of mobility for people to stroll the trails.... help record the GPS cordinates using a Garmin GPSmap 62sc handheld gizmo... help tow/move a couple of heavy items into position... spray paint metal sign stands .....and dogs to check out the trails and play areas.

Bring rakes, pitchforks, blowers, spray cans of dayglo marker paint, shovels, spades...
We're going to make sure the trails are good to go, mark where the various adventure obstacles will be placed.

Bring muscles to help tow or move the big heavy bbq benchtop into position and move the future sign in booth and sign stands into position.
We have a plastic pallet form for the booth foundation. I'm thinking we box it with 4x2's and fill with concrete. We'll need to box up foundations for the metal sign stands to.

Bring scrub bars ....The pathways into three smaller play areas weren't mown as we need to decide what shape/size etc they should be.

Bring metal spray paint....either black or dark green for painting the sign stands.

It's been suggested that we have a shared lunch volunteers meeting on Monday 29th January...around 12 o'clock.
Considering the scorching weather, a shared lunch under the willow trees will be a nice break from the heat.
We'll update on everything's that happening, sort out the projects (sign In booth, footbridge, outdoor seats, mutt park weather station etc) and sort out what date we should aim to fully open the Mutt Park by.
Whether you have a dog, want to join the volunteers or would like to check out what's going on .... a shared lunch on Monday with the Mutt Park volunteers before racing to the beach for a swim!!!

Happy long weekend everyone....we'll be having another volunteer day on Monday 29th January. It'll be more of a get together to update on what's happening with the charitable trust set up for the Mutt park, the grants applied for to date and to organise completing the last few projects to enable the Mutt Park to fully open.
Next week Brenda and myself will be visiting a few local businesses for materials for creating a dogs adventure play area.... It's starting to all come together and Mangawhai will have a great dog space for all real soon.

Thanks to all who came for the track and trail clearing weekend. You guys rocked and we got a huge amount done, forming one large activity area with a looping trail and clearing a shade area halfway down the central track.
Big thanks to Robin and Joshua ... some awesome suggestions resulting in the landscape plan for the adventure/agility/training areas being redesigned to make it more practical for specific dog activities.
Big thanks to Emma and Mike for daring to go with a ride on mower where none has been before.
Big thanks to Adrianna and John (?)for the coffee/tea supplies, most appreciated by all.
And big thanks to all who arrived during the weekend to lend a helping hand.
If anyone has any photos from the weekend, please post them .... it was hot, hard work and now it's started, it'll be easier to keep it maintained.

Volunteers Needed at Manga Mutt Park
Saturday and Sunday.
January 13 & 14, 2018

Want opportunity to be a part of creating dog trails that are going to be awesome for the next generation of dog owners... and a great space to come with your dog?
Yeah of course you do.*G
We need help.... big time.
Bring any w**d eater, scrub bar, rake, pitchfork, grass cutting device you have..... or can beg, borrow or buy from your neighbor. If you don't have any gear, bring your bodies because we need a hand.
Anyone with coffee/tea making skills would also be really welcome. My tea making skills suck, probably why so many of the volunteers bring cold beer instead.

We'll be clearing areas for agility training, all seasons exercise area and trails connecting them. The areas left uncut will be landscaped and planted in Autumn. Effectively we are carving the shape of the Manga Mutt Park into the landscape.

It'll be a fun day outdoors, we'll get it done, then kick back under the willows while the dogs play.

Bring work or gardening gloves & water bottles & bowls for your dogs. I'll put a sign up out by the road for so the mutt park is easy to find and post map directions also.
(I've heard there's a few really good masseuses in Mangawhai.... might pay to book a session for afterwards.)
