Today our brigade paused to reflect and remember at the ANZAC Day dawn service in Masterton.

It was a meaningful way to honour those who served, and those who continue to serve, with courage and sacrifice.

After the service, we returned to station where we shared kai together as a brigade — volunteers and career staff — alongside our families.

Lest we forget

After months of research and development, we’re proud to introduce the HydroFoam 3000 — a next-generation firefighting system.

Using advanced bubble-encapsulation technology, it converts water into high-density, fire-suppressing bubbles capable of smothering flames in seconds

Key features include:
• Adjustable bubble size (from “dishwash” to “car wash”)
• Built-in foam flavouring to improve crew morale
• Smart nozzle with Bluetooth connectivity for real-time bubble analytics

Initial trials will begin next week across selected incidents.

Please do not be alarmed if you see large volumes of bubbles at emergency scenes.

The dedicated firefighters of Masterton have been taking a stand for their future and their community, with ongoing strike action every Monday and Friday. Each Friday, you’ll find them on the picket line for an hour, standing strong and united as they work to have their voices heard and their concerns recognised. Their commitment reflects not only their professionalism, but also their determination to ensure safe and sustainable conditions for the vital work they do.

On Mondays, their approach takes on a different tone through “Strike for Good” — giving back to the very community they serve. Last week, the crew volunteered their hour at Wai Waste Masterton a not-for-profit organisation that collects perfectly good surplus food from local businesses and passes it on to food banks and local community groups that make sure everyone in our community has something to eat. Today, they continued that spirit of service at the Wairarapa Resource Centre, an place that provides resources individuals, to further support people by creating or supporting programmes to develop skills and further training, to reduce waste by encouraging reduce, recycle and reuse and to provide opportunities for volunteers.

Even while taking action, these firefighters continue to show what it truly means to serve — standing up for their cause while still standing with their community.

We give our time.
We give our strength.
We give our skills.
We give our courage.
We give when it’s hard.

So what do we gain?

We gain confidence.
We gain trust.
We gain belonging.
We gain each other.

Give to Gain

Our Masterton team were accompanied by Mauriceville station for a beautiful sunny day in McJorrow park for the East side festival on Saturday 🎶🌴 With live music, good food, and fun activities for everyone to get involved in.

The kids (and some older kids 😆) were having a blast with our obstacle course. Some playing against the police or our volunteer firefighters, I don't think we stood a chance!

Our career staff got 'roped' into a game of tug-of-war and won a game of the egg and spoon race! 🎉

Our firefighters showed the kids around our 617 truck, and we even had some brave kids hanging out in the Mauriceville truck just in case of an emergency (thank you for your service 🫡)

Thank you to the East side community for having us. You were a joy to be around!
