Fareham Gallery is an art gallery located within the historic building of Fareham House, located at 80 Underhill Road, Featherston 5710. Gallery opening hours are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 1pm and 5pm.

👀 We see this in his sculptures, as well as his pieces designed to be integrated into buildings, and in later years, his drawings in pen, ink, and chalk.

✨Theo Janssen is a Dutch/NZ artist famous for his large-scale sculptures, stained glass, and mosaics. ✨

🌅 Nature inspired the artist Theo Janssen to paint a series of landscapes blending the curves of women into the scene 🌅

👉Here’s the story...
🚗 While driving through the Canterbury High Country in the South Island, Theo Janssen stopped to relieve himself at the side of the road. 💦

☺️ Relaxing, he looked out at the surrounding hills, and he noticed how the shapes of the landscape looked like the curves in women’s bodies. 👁️

🖌️ Inspired by that moment, Theo Janssen painted a series of landscapes blending the curves of women into the scene (see the photos).

✨ Meet Award-Winning Dutch/NZ Artist: Theo Janssen who is currently exhibiting at Fareham Gallery, Featherston. ✨

🇳🇱 Theo Janssen was born in Belford, the Netherlands, in 1934, and he studied under various Dutch artists and assisted on major stained-glass and mosaic projects in Europe before moving to New Zealand in 1958. 🇳🇿

🏆 Theo made a name for himself in 1966, when he won first prize in the National Bank Mural Competition with a mural created with baked enamel (see photos).

🌟 His work was often abstract and geometric, with strong emphasis on form and colour.

🏛️ Many of his works were designed to be integrated into buildings; he is known for his large public works in Europe and New Zealand. We have different examples in the photos.

🎨 Theo Janssen is a Dutch-born NZ artist famous for his sculptures, mosaics, and stained glass work. 🇳🇱🇳🇿

🏆 In 1966, he won first prize in the National Bank Mural Competition with a mural made with baked enamel.

🗽 He has a number of large public works thoughout New Zealand, as well as in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, The Netherlands, England, France, India, America, Japan, Italy, and South Africa. 🌏
