Tēnā koutou katoa e te iwi,

COVID-19 is in our Kahungunu rohe. On Sunday 14 Nov two cases had been reported overnight in the Tararua district, covered by MidCentral DHB. Both cases reported feeling unwell on Friday 12 November, sought prompt testing and are now self-isolating at home. The two live in the same household. The Public Health Unit is still investigating any links with other known cases.
• The Ministry of Health is recommending testing for anyone with mild symptoms of COVID-19 in Woodville and a number of locations of interest in the area. Check out the Unite against Covi website for this info. If you feel unwell, get tested. Here are some places to go if you live in the Tararua rohe, however, wherever you live, if you feel unwell - get tested.
o Woodville Medical Centre 11.30am - 3.30pm
o Dannevirke Hospital, Barraud Street 11.30 - 3.30pm
o Pahiatua Medical Centre 11.30am - 3.30pm
o Horowhenua After Hours 9am - 4.30pm.
o Feilding Health Centre 9am - 12pm.
o 575 Main St, Palmerston North 10am - 5pm.
o City Doctors White Cross, 22 Victoria Ave, Palmerston North 8am - 8pm.
o The Palms Medical Centre, 445 Ferguson St, Palmerston North 8am - 8pm

E te whānau, it will spread. It is not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Now is the time to prepare ourselves. Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated is pro vaccine. We are encouraging ALL whānau to vaccinate to protect yourself and have a better chance to live through this pandemic and survive, not like many of our tipuna who died without hope of survival. The flu pandemic of 1918 (sometimes called the Spanish Flu) was New Zealand’s most devastating peacetime event, with 9000 deaths and 40% of the population infected. It followed on directly from the devastation of the First World War, so communities were already traumatised. Just over 100 years later, we have COVID-19 - another pandemic, but this time we have information, vaccinations and support to get us through. Please whānau, consider, reconsider, and do the right things to protect yourself first, if not for you, for your family around you, if not for them, for your mokos still to come.
DON'T BE SCARED, BE PREPARED.

Our Story

Connecting Communities Wairarapa is a long-standing not-for-profit organisation with the sole purpose of enhancing the well-being of those Wairarapa individuals and communities who need assistance. Made up of two inter-linked teams - our development team and our social services team - we work together to connect and channel support (provided by a wide range of services and community programmes), to where it is needed most in Wairarapa. If you would like information about community-led initiatives in your area, Neighbourhood Support, youth development or our School Holiday programme then please contact our Development Team. If you, or someone you know, needs help with budgeting of life skills – how to shop wise, cook a nutritious meal, manage a household budget then please contact our Social Services Team. If you would like to volunteer then we would love to hear from you! Development Team: [email protected] Social Services Team: [email protected]
