It's been a busy week at Rotary Matamata with the induction of Mike Kitney as a member, a fabulous presentation by Ange McIvor on her career with Air New Zealand, presenting member Owen Westlake with his prize for winning the World Cup Soccer raffle, assisting with the Daffodil Day collection on Friday and then delivering furniture, toys and firewood to a family that lost their home in a house fire a couple of months ago. Rotary in action.

🚐 $41,000 FOR THE MATAMATA COMMUNITY HEALTH SHUTTLE! 💙

What an incredible result for our community!

Matamata Rotary is thrilled to have donated $41,000 to the Matamata Community Health Shuttle - helping support this important service that makes a real difference for people in our community.

This donation was made possible thanks to the amazing support of everyone who got behind our Great Celebrity Debate earlier this year. It was a fantastic night filled with plenty of lively debating, lots of laughter, and some very questionable arguments! 😂

But most importantly, it brought our community together for a great cause - and we’re so proud that the night has resulted in such a significant contribution to a service that helps local people access vital healthcare.

A huge thank you to our celebrity debaters, sponsors, supporters, volunteers and everyone who came along and helped make the event such a success.

This is what Rotary is all about — bringing people together to make a difference in our community. ❤️

A huge thank you to the wonderful Matamata community for getting behind Red Nose Day and supporting our fundraiser! ❤️🧁

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised over $2,100 for this amazing cause. Every cupcake purchased and every donation made will help support vital research and education to keep our precious pēpi safe.

Our cupcakes certainly went down a treat, and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces stopping by to support such an important cause.

From everyone at Matamata Rotary, thank you for helping make a real difference. We couldn't have done it without you! 💙

It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Matamata College Interact Club to our Rotary meeting last week.

We had the opportunity to thank and recognise the outgoing board, presenting certificates in appreciation of their leadership and service over the past year. Outgoing President Mikhaela reflected on a fantastic year, with the Study Garden being the club's major project—a space that has become a wonderful place for students to study, relax, and enjoy nature. She shared how grateful she is to Rotary for its support, saying Interact has helped develop her leadership skills and is something she will always be thankful for.

We also welcomed the new Interact board and heard about their goals for the year ahead:
🌱 Micaela (President) hopes to complete the Study Garden and begin exciting new projects.
💙 Lucy (Vice President) is excited to work with the team and get projects underway.
💰 Finn (Treasurer) wants to help create an even better community within the school.
📝 Tyrone (Secretary) is looking forward to learning new skills while contributing to the school.
🤝 Olive (Project Management) hopes to encourage more young people to get involved with Rotary.

We look forward to supporting this enthusiastic group of young leaders throughout the year and can't wait to see what they achieve. Congratulations to both the outgoing and incoming Interact boards!

📰 We're incredibly proud to see our Rotary Club featured in this week's The Scene! 💙💛

Congratulations to Rotarian Wade Linnell on receiving the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow recognition for his outstanding service to our community, the Pacific Islands, and beyond. This honour reflects decades of selfless volunteering and making a real difference wherever there's a need.

We also celebrate Lyn Dobbe, who was named Matamata Rotarian of the Year, recognising her dedication and the countless hours she gives behind the scenes to keep our club running smoothly.

At Rotary Matamata, we're fortunate to have so many members who quietly give their time, skills, and hearts in service to others. Seeing that commitment recognised in our local paper is something we're immensely proud of.

A huge thank you to The Scene Newspaper for sharing these stories and helping shine a light on the incredible people who make our community stronger.
