🌱 As spring progresses clear dead and dry vegetation from around buildings, make sure emergency vehicles can easily access your property, ensure water supplies are available and keep spring grass growth under control

🍃 How quickly conditions change will depend on spring weather, including temperature, rainfall, humidity, and strong winds

🌾🔥 Living Rural? Prepare Your Property for Wildfire 🔥🌾

If you live rurally, taking a few simple steps around your property can help reduce the risk of wildfire and give your home a better chance if a fire occurs.

🏡 Take a look around your property and:

🌿 Clear away dead, dry vegetation, leaves and other flammable material from around your home and outbuildings.
🔥 Keep firewood, gas bottles, fuel and other combustible materials well away from buildings.
🚒 Make sure your driveway and accessways are at least 4 metres wide and 4 metres high so emergency vehicles can get through.
💧 Check that you have an adequate water supply available for firefighting.
🌳 Trim trees and vegetation around buildings and accessways.
🌱 Keep grass and vegetation under control, particularly as it dries out.
🚜 Keep machinery maintained and check it for anything that could create a spark or start a fire.
📋 Have a plan for your family, livestock and property if a wildfire threatens. Have a go bag ready.

🔥 Remember, conditions can change quickly. What may be a safe place for an outdoor fire today can become hazardous when the weather turns hot, dry and windy.

Natural environment waterways training, using a new piece of kit.
Pumping from our 7500L portable dam using a high volume pump to a dam built with equipment on hand. A wajax pump drew water from the second dam to supply two forestry deliveries. Murray illing took training and pasted on valuable skills he learnt at a recent two day course in Clyde. A great training night in preparation for the coming fire season.
