Amongst some pretty heavy news around the world lately, the good news is… the sun still rises over New Zealand every day.
This is leading more people to take action and finally go solar.
It’s not being driven by policy or incentives - it’s coming straight from households.
EV uptake is definitely part of it. Once people start driving electric, the next thought is pretty quickly “how do I charge this without it costing a fortune?” Generating your own power just makes sense.
But it goes a bit deeper than that. There’s more awareness now that relying fully on the grid comes with its own risks - price jumps, outages, and being exposed to whatever’s happening globally with fuel.
None of this is really new. Plenty of people have been thinking about solar for a while now, just not quite pulling the trigger.
What’s changed is the timing.
Everything going on globally has just been that extra nudge. It’s tipped people from “yeah maybe one day” to actually doing something about it.
We’re seeing more households start to treat solar (and batteries especially) as part of the home itself - not really an upgrade anymore, more something that should of been there already.
And the big thing is this is all happening naturally.
No subsidies, no big push.
Just everyday Kiwis thinking a bit longer term about how they can be more self-reliant.
