Mount Maunganui College Mount Maunganui College is a co-educational state school located in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.

It was established in 1958, the same year that Tauranga College was split. At Mount Maunganui College we believe the fundamental purpose of education is to increase young people’s resourcefulness to enable them to cope with life and reach their potential. Our motivation as educators is to develop our students’ character to allow them to become more resilient, resourceful, reflective and reciprocal, preparing them for a lifetime of change.

🎬 Lights, camera, quiz night!

Mount College's annual Year 13 and staff quiz night hit the hall last night for a Night at the Movies themed evening! Teams went head to head across 8 rounds of 10 questions, testing their knowledge across a range of categories.

From putting their movie knowledge to the test to dressing up for the occasion, there was plenty of competition along the way!

🌏 SAVE THE DATE | MMC 2028 SEA TRIP

Planning is underway for our 2028 Southeast Asia trip to Vietnam and Cambodia!

Open to our current Year 10 and 11 students, this will be the third time MMC has run this incredible international experience. Students will have the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, explore significant historical sites, experience new cultures and build independence along the way.

With just 29 spots available, make sure you come along to our Parent & Student Information Evening to find out more about the trip, including the itinerary, key dates, costs, safety protocols and what to expect.

✂️ ANNUAL HEADSHAVE 2026 🪒

Thursday saw the return of our annual Headshave, with a new addition this year: the chop option! Students could choose to cut their hair rather than shave it, with some even donating their hair along the way. 💇‍♀️

Together, our school community raised over $5,400 for Shave for a Cure, helping support cancer research. A huge thank you to everyone who donated and got behind this amazing cause! ❤️

A massive thank you to for donating your time and skills to do the shaves and cuts, and to for donating a pair of clippers and other tools so participants’ friends could get involved and shave their heads for them.

Namaste from Nepal! 🙏

Five of our Year 11 & 12 students are currently in Nepal for an incredible 3-week adventure, joining with some amazing students from Mount Aspiring College in Wānaka to make one big group! 🌏

The group is currently on Day 3 of their 10-day Annapurna Base Camp trek, experiencing the incredible scenery, culture and local communities along the way. They will also be working with a local school, helping with painting, plastering and other community projects, as well as playing and teaching sports with local children and sharing some Kiwi culture.

We can’t wait to follow their journey and see what the next few weeks bring! 🇳🇵🏔️

Te Tūkohu Ngāwhā Mātauranga Māori Science & Design Fair 🔬

Last week, our students travelled to Rotorua to take part in the annual Te Tūkohu Ngāwhā Mātauranga Māori Science and Design Fair. The fair explores environmental issues through a Te Ao Māori lens, combining mātauranga Māori with Western science to develop creative and innovative solutions for our taiao.

A huge congratulations to Year 9 student Zack Robinson, who was awarded 3rd place in the Sustainability category for his CO₂ to Grow Wheatgrass project. Zack investigated whether growing wheatgrass under elevated carbon dioxide levels could increase its growth enough to make this a worthwhile method for growing crops and resources. 🌱

Well done to all of our students for the mahi and dedication that they put into their projects.

What a night! Our Year 12 and 13 Drama students brought the stage to life with three hilarious melodramas; Boo and Hiss, A Penny for Bob and The Virtue of Innocence.

With incredible sets, costumes, music and characters, our packed audience laughed, cheered, booed and hissed their way through an unforgettable night of entertainment! 👏🎬

Get ready for an evening celebrating the creativity, hard work and talent of our Mount Maunganui College Dance students! ✨

Our annual Dance Showcase will feature a selection of NCEA assessment works and co-curricular dance pieces from students across Years 9–13.
