You're invited!

It was signalled by MWLT at the April Public Meeting and recent Annual Meeting that MWLT would initiate the process to convert to a Community Trust, a process allowed for under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act that lets MWLT evolve to a more efficient structure reflecting its current business model of investing and grant-making (through the Mount Wellington Charitable Trust).

That process has now been initiated with the passing of a resolution by MWLT on Friday 21 August.

A discussion paper to inform the community of the process and rationale behind this will be posted to this page by Friday 28 August.

Then the opportunity is there to come along to discuss the process and rationale behind initiating the conversion process and what options are available to the community. Bring your queries and get the answers you need.

Congratulations to Troy Elliott, who has been elected President of the New Zealand Community and Licensing Trust Association (NZCLTA).

Troy's experience will be of great value to NZCLTA as matters such as proposed local body changes to election processes (with significant cost increases) are worked through.

NZCLTA will continue to focus on maximising the benefit of Community and Licensing Trusts to their local communities.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, and a public forum will be held.

If your organisation is doing meaningful work in our community, we want to hear from you. Applications for the next MWCT granting round are now open until 11:59pm on Friday 28 August.

A couple of important things to know before you apply:

⏳ Register early. Applications are submitted through the Fluxx platform and registration can take up to 3 working days to process. Don't leave it until the last minute or you may miss out.

🙋 Support through Perpetual Guardian is available — but only until 5pm on 28 August. If you need help with your application, make sure to reach out before then.

Mount Wellington Licensing Trust is pleased to present an investment report on the year ending 31 March 2026, prepared by their appointed investment advisors Māpua Wealth.

While navigating a global environment including tariff volatility and the outbreak of war, the combined portfolio returned 7.8% after fees - significantly outperforming property over the same period

Portfolio performance will vary from year to year however it is pleasing to see the first year of investment exceed the average expected return of 7%.

This investment strategy has seen MWLT (including Mount Wellington Trust Hotels and Mount Wellington Charitable Trust) cover overheads, distribute $720,000 to community organisations and end the year with an increase in the combined portfolio value.

Investment performance has continued its strong trajectory since 31 March and a further updated will be presented at the Annual Meeting of Electors - expected to be held in July/August following completing of the FY2026 audit.
