Today, as part of Book Week, we celebrate Lois - who has been our incredible librarian for 30 years! What a fantastic achievement for an absolute taonga to our school. 'The Hobbit' was chosen for her celebration cake, as it was the first book she read and sparked her love of reading. Thank you, Lois, for all you do to inspire a love of reading in our tamariki!

There's a new lunch available from the school lunches tomorrow - Chicken Pesto Pasta Salad. As we move into warmer weather, they will be providing a new 'cold' meal each Thursday for the rest of the term. Check out next week's menu, too!

Billets required - ONE night only - Thursday 29 October.
M.A.S is hosting Junior (Years 7-10) TOSI next term. This is a 2 day sporting event featuring Tapawera, Collingwood and Amuri Area Schools, as well as Murchison.
In order to keep this cost effective we are committed to hosting our visitors.
While we realise it is still a little way out from the end of October, in the interests of best practice we are now required to police vet any families taking billets. This process takes up to 5 weeks.
Hence, we need to get this process in place immediately. If you are able to help us out here, could you please contact Peter Grigg and advise how many billets you can take and what gender please. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Tuakana-teina is a traditional Māori concept that pairs an older or more experienced person (tuakana) with a younger or less experienced person (teina) for shared learning, mentoring and support. This special relationship is one of the things that makes being part of an Area School so unique, and Matiri class were privileged to welcome some of Owen class’ Big Buddies' in earlier in the week, to share in our reading time!

The Matiri ākonga (students) were delighted to have some of their big buddies join us. Three Matiri ākonga had the opportunity to show off their reading skills to their Owen buddies and then, in return, the Owen students read a picture book to each of the Matiri ākonga.

Our big buddies were very popular, and we loved having them in our classroom! It was a wonderful opportunity for our ākonga to support one another, share a love of learning and reading, and strengthen the relationships between our youngest and older learners.

We look forward to welcoming more of the Owen class, a few at a time, to share their love of reading with our youngest readers.

Ngā mihi nui to Miss Moore and Owen class! ❤️
