Clear your Sunday, your dog has plans 😏🐾

Napier City’s Pawrade is back this Sunday 13 September, and the CBD is ready for its canine takeover!

Meet at the Napier Soundshell from 1pm, then hit the streets for a self-led wander through the city, with 50+ dog-friendly businesses to sniff out and discover.

And don't worry, we're providing back-up poo bags if you're on your last one 💩

Stay out late! Napier City's Indy Night is giving you a very good reason to linger in town tonight. Explore Napier’s independent shops and galleries after hours before finding somewhere local to settle in for dinner. Friday night, sorted.

Back the Bay as Hawkes Bay Magpies take on Otago Rugby at McLean Park tonight at 7.10pm. It’s shaping up to be a big one, with more than 5,000 tickets already snapped up, you’d better get a wriggle on. Hot chips essential!

Get your skates on! Pirates vs ninjas. On roller skates. At a disco. Need we say more? Pick a side and roll into Bay Skate from 6pm tonight.

Bring your A game and challenge Dad to a showdown at Par2 MiniGolf. If a rematch is required, your second round is half price!

Catch a classic! Footrot Flats: The Dog’s Tale is back on the big screen for its 40th anniversary. Catch it at 1pm on Saturday at Hawke's Bay Museum's Century Theatre. It’s been remastered in 4K too, so Wal and Dog have never looked better. Slice of heaven, anyone?

The Cross Country stormwater pods are another step closer to completion, with repairs now finished on all three and the undercoat applied.

Next week, the team will apply the final topcoat before the scaffolding comes down, giving us a first look at the refurbished pods.

The pods are being refurbished to help protect them against the tough coastal conditions and keep them in good working order for when they’re needed during heavy rain.

A thorough clean and fresh refill yesterday has one of Napier’s Art Deco icons looking sharp for spring 🤩
 
With its sweeping jets of water and kaleidoscope of colourful lights, the fountain has been part of Napier’s landscape since 1936, when it was gifted to the city by local businessman Tom Parker.
 
Parker had been captivated by an illuminated fountain he saw in Bournemouth and wanted to create something that would bring the same sense of wonder to Napier. He donated £1,000 towards the project, with the fountain officially opened just before Christmas that year.
 
His wish? That it would be “a thing of beauty and a joy for ever”.
 
Nearly 90 years later, it still knows how to put on a brilliant show after dark 🫶

A pretty good view from the job where some of our crew recently got stuck into a scheduled clean of one of Napier’s water reservoirs💧

It’s a big job and definitely a team effort, with plenty of work happening behind the scenes to get the reservoir cleaned and ready to keep doing what it does best: storing and supplying our water.

Not the everyday work you see, but an important part of keeping things flowing. Thanks team! ☝️

With temperatures hitting 20°C and plenty to do indoors and out, it’s shaping up to be a pretty good farewell to winter. Looking for things to do in Napier this weekend? We’ve got you covered 👇

Meander the markets on Saturday morning. Head to Napier Urban Farmers' Market for coffee and pastries, then stock up on fruit and veges for the week ahead.

Hit the trails. Cycle or stroll? You are the decider. The 1.6 km stretch from Bay View to Westshore is perfect for parading your on-lead pooch. Prefer to pedal? Check out the trails through Te Whanganui o Orotu.

Get ’em while they’re hot! Tuck into Humble Pie while you still can. It’s the last weekend of the promotion, with 24 Napier venues serving up a plethora of pies.

Fancy a film? There are films aplenty, 10 to be exact, screening at Hawke’s Bay Museum’s Century Theatre for the New Zealand International Film Festival this weekend. There are plenty more to catch until 6 September.
