William Colenso College

William Colenso College William Colenso College is Year 7-13 co-ed intermediate & secondary school We are a co-educational secondary school for years 7 - 13 students.

Our school is separated into two distinctive areas, Middle School and Senior School. We take pride in being Napier city's co-educational college and middle school. We have a healthy learning atmosphere, which encourages collaboration between boys and girls. This in turn develops self-confidence in students so that they feel comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions in any situation, which prepa

res them to excel in life after school. The Middle School Philosophy is based on an acknowledgement that emerging adolescents are at a pivotal developmental stage and have specific needs. Our Middle School creates a responsive and appropriate experience for this age group. The Senior School focuses on providing a wide range of academic, practical, cultural and sporting opportunities. No only will these lead to qualifications (NCEA) but also to a real sense of achievement and enhanced self-esteem. Our staff are renowned for being friendly and positive. We pride ourselves on being highly professional and are constantly reflecting, and looking at ways to improve our performance.

The National Careers Expo was held at Pettigrew Green Arena in Taradale, on Wednesday 27th May.

All of our Year 13 students had the opportunity to attend this event, with transport provided to and from the venue. Their form teachers (Mrs Macfarlane and Mrs Kumar) supported them on this trip.

A range of career pathways were represented - Universities, The Defence Force, Police, Automotive Engineering with MITO, EIT, Chartered Accountants, the Queenstown Resort College, Ministry of Education, Tahatū (New Zealand web based career information for all New Zealanders), Napier City Council, Youbee and more.

Students engaged with various organisations to collect information, ask questions and explore areas of interest with experts in their fields.

The photo is of Mia, Eva, Timon, Crissell and Branden trying on some of the clothing and equipment used by the Defence Force.

Waikato University Trip

It was a big day out and road trip for 10 of our Year 13 students on Friday 22nd May, with a 5.45am departure and a 6.30pm return to WCC.

This well-organised and cheerful bunch took the opportunity to visit the university of Waikato at their annual open day, held at the Hamilton campus.

By being able to explore the university first-hand, they were able to put themselves in the picture of university life - at least a small slice of it.

Students were able to explore study options, visit lecture theatres and other learning places, learn about the student support services, the hustle and bustle of student life and also accommodation options.

This trip is about exposure to a potential pathway option, and these students are all studying with a view to securing university entrance accreditation by the end of the year.

The group unanimously fed back that it was worth visiting the campus to further build on those potential next steps beyond school.
