Our reading programme for ages 10-15, Join the Readvolution has kicked off, and our Padlet is already buzzing with really cool posts and awesome conversations about what everyone's reading. The teams are neck and neck, and if this is how week one looks, the next six weeks are going to be epic!

On the shortest day of the year, 21 June 1976, Hawke’s Bay was blanketed in snow. Known as the Great Snow of 1976, the event occurred when an intense Antarctic blast swept across the country, bringing snow to unusually low levels. The storm was so severe and widespread that it brought the motu to a standstill. The photos show snow on Te Mata Peak, and the Napier-Taupo Road near Titiokura.

We'll be sharing a story, singing some fun songs, and celebrating the richness of Chinese language and culture together. As part of the session, we'll enjoy a story read in Mandarin, giving tamariki and whānau the opportunity to hear and experience the language in a fun and welcoming setting.
After Storytime, stay and enjoy some Chinese-themed colouring activities in the library.

The best part? Our challenge squares are open to your own interpretation. What counts as a "job you have never had" or a "What did I just read!?" might be completely different for someone else, and that's exactly the point! Make the challenge your own.

🎧 Listen to audiobooks

How it works:

πŸ‘‰ Choose a challenge square and read or listen to something that fits.
πŸ‘‰ Report in through the Books and Beyond Challenge page or by scanning the QR code.
πŸ‘‰ Keep going and complete as many squares as you like!

Every completed square and report-in earns you an entry into our weekly prize draw, so the more you read, the more chances you have to win.

The wait is almost over! Registered participants can start collecting their Dino Explorers folders from today at either Napier or Taradale Library.
