Puke Ariki holds the Feaver Collection - an amazing collection of thousands of glass plate negatives capturing life in Ōpunakē from the 1890s to the 1940s.

The original Red House Hotel was constructed on the corner of Devon Street East and Gover Street in 1865.

Rebuilt in 1900, its name was changed to the State Hotel in 1937. The building was later home to Cobb & Co. restaurant from 1980 until 1996. Joe’s Garage opened on the ground floor in June 2012.
