Final results. Just under 550 votes which I'm super stoked about.

548 people supported me and my aim at the council. Out of just over 3000 votes. Over 16% of voters chose me. Awesome!

Thank you

I hope that I never need to get into council because if it's being run right then there is no need for me to be there.

We shall see how this council turns out over the next 3 years. I believe we have a fair shot at some good moves. Time will tell.

Thanks again for all your support. Make sure you keep being vocal about your needs and wants. Keep council honest.

Accountability seems to be a foreign word at council. When projects run over budget, when debt climbs past $400 million, and when consultation results are ignored, no one takes responsibility.

If you or I managed our household or business like that, we’d be out of a job. Yet somehow, in local government, failure gets rewarded with more spending and more excuses.

New Plymouth deserves leaders who don’t hide behind jargon and committees. We deserve people who take ownership, admit when something isn’t working, and fix it before it becomes another million-dollar mistake.

Accountability is not optional, it’s the job

If your household was in debt by hundreds of millions, would you keep spending on extras, then just hope it works out? Of course not. Yet that’s exactly how NPDC operates.

We need a council that treats ratepayer money like it’s their own. Core services first, water, roads, waste. No pet projects until we can afford them. Accountability and transparency must replace the blank cheques.

If you want a council that works for you, not against your wallet, you know what to do in October.

How STV Voting Really Works, and Why 2nd Place Votes Don’t Save You

A lot of people misunderstand how the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system works.

Here’s the key:
Your first choice matters the most. Second, third, or later choices only come into play if your higher choices are eliminated.

Example:
Let’s say 10 people vote.

Candidate A gets 3 people putting them as 1st choice.

Candidate B gets no 1st choice votes, but 7 people put them as 2nd choice.

Under STV, we count all the 1st choices first.

A has 3 votes.

B has 0 votes.

Because B has no first preferences, they are the lowest and get eliminated straight away. Their 2nd place votes never even get looked at, because those voters’ 1st choices are still in the race.

So who goes through? Candidate A.

The takeaway:

In STV, your first choice is the only one that counts at the start.

Lower preferences only count when your higher preference candidate is knocked out.

You can’t win on 2nd places alone, you must have 1st place votes to survive.

Vote wise this term my friends!

Elect intelligence, not ideology.

It’s time we stop rewarding the loudest voice in the room and start demanding the smartest one.

Local government needs brains, not buzzwords. We need people who can read the fine print, ask the hard questions, and actually understand what they’re voting on. This is your money, your future, your community.

Let’s stop electing people just because they’re likeable or tick the right boxes. Start choosing those who can think critically, solve problems, and make decisions based on facts, not feelings.

If you want common sense, logic, and intelligence back at the table, then vote for it

Vote #1 Dayna Jury North ward.

Dayna Jury – Standing for NPDC Council - north ward

I've been a bit quiet as my dad passed away recently and it's one of those life moments most of us go through. It's sad and depressing but we all have limited time on this earth as we are so make the most of it.

I have officially begun my run for North ward as I am born and currently reside in Brixton, Waitara so it makes sense I represent my Area. I am open about my positions in life and want to see an affordable future for everyone and see our rate money extremely well used for our basic infrastructure we use daily.

******

I’m not a politician. I’m a ratepayer, business owner, and someone who’s had enough of council waste, rising rates, and ticking boxes instead of delivering results. I’ve run successful businesses in Taranaki and have dealt firsthand with the bloated, inefficient bureaucracy our council has become.

Our core infrastructure is failing. Roads, water, and wastewater are crumbling while money is thrown at vanity projects and endless consultants. Rural and fringe areas are treated as cash cows while service levels keep dropping. Transparency is non-existent. Council hides behind process and PR instead of owning mistakes or engaging honestly.

I’ll stop that. I’ll bring accountability, cut the spin, and make sure ratepayer money goes where it should — into core services, not nice-to-haves.

I’ll oppose unelected influence and closed-door decisions. I support fair representation, not backroom deals that silence debate. Every ratepayer deserves a say, and every councillor must be answerable for their decisions.

If elected, I’ll keep people informed through regular updates on social media and open reporting on council matters. No more hiding behind “consultation” while ignoring community voices. If you reach out to me, you’ll get a straight answer.

I’m not here to build a career in politics. I’m here to challenge a broken system and speak for the silent majority who are sick of being ignored and overcharged.

Vote for strong representation, not polished PR. Vote for someone who actually lives in the real world.

Max Brough believes he is in a far better position to make a bid for the New Plymouth mayoralty than when he stood six years ago.

🛠️ Still Broken. Still Untouchable.

Three years ago, NPDC got slammed with the lowest possible audit rating for its contractor system: “inconsistent and inadequate.”

Now? Another “deep dive” just confirmed almost nothing has changed.

Contractors still paid without contracts.

No performance reviews for 8+ years.

Purchase orders created after work done.

No documentation. No sign-offs.

Conflict of interest? Barely managed.

They even admitted deviations from procedures may “persist unchecked.”

And your council’s response?
👂 Silence. No debate. Just more promises.
🗓️ And a magical fix-it timeline… stretching to 2026.

Don’t vote for me if you love:

✔️ Governance risks
✔️ Unchecked spending
✔️ Weak enforcement
✔️ Another 18 months of “action plans”

✅ Vote for me if you want this circus shut down.

No more delays. No more cover-ups. No more excuses.
The only “action plan” should be accountability.

An internal investigation into how the New Plymouth District Council has improved the way it manages its contractors three years on from a scathing audit report has found significant shortcomings still exist in the organisation.
