🔥 When one of our firefighters heads overseas on an international deployment, they don't go alone — they take the support, skills and experience of our brigade with them.
International deployments provide an incredible opportunity to work alongside firefighters from different countries, experience different fire environments and learn new approaches to wildfire suppression, incident management, crew safety and leadership.
But the real benefit comes when they return home - The knowledge, experience and lessons learned are brought back to our brigade and shared with our crews - helping us continue to grow, improve and strengthen our own capability here at home.
It’s an opportunity for one firefighter to learn, but for the whole brigade to benefit. 🚒
Our deployed member, Greg, had this to say:
“Its hot, its dirty, we are constantly in some level of smoke even in base camp. We work from 6am till 7.30pm most days walking hills and terrain unlike anything I have seen before. We constantly lookout for bears ,mountain lions and rattle snakes not too mention anything else thats out there. It's 40 degrees by lunch time. They have made us feel so welcome and are soo friendly and will literally give us the shirts of their backs, everyone is so grateful we're here to assist."
We’re incredibly proud to see one of our own representing our brigade and New Zealand on the international fireground.
We look forward to welcoming Greg home, hearing the stories, sharing the lessons — and putting some of that experience into practice here in our own backyard 🇳🇿🔥
