💨💨It's time to tie down those trampolines and outdoor furniture, Wairarapa.💨💨
MetService New Zealand has issued a strong wind warning for Wairarapa from 4am - 1pm tomorrow, Friday. Be prepared for severe gale northwesterlies gusting 130km/h in exposed places, which can damage trees, power lines, and make unsecured structures airborne.
For Tararua District, west to northwest winds tomorrow may approach severe gale in exposed places

👉🏼We have crews on standby ready to respond to power outages when it's safe to do so, but you can prepare too.

A few simple things to have ready:
📱Charge your devices and keep a power bank handy.
🔦Keep a torch and spare batteries somewhere easy to find.
🫗Have some emergency water available, including enough for your pets.
🔥 Think about how you’d prepare food without power - a BBQ or camping stove can be useful.
💊 If you rely on electricity for medical equipment, make sure your backup plan is up to date.
🔌 Protect sensitive electronics with surge protection.
🚗 Know how to manually open your garage door if the power is out.
🏠Keep your emergency supplies together so you can easily find what you need.
A little preparation now can make an outage much easier to manage.

A big shout out to the hundreds of contractors who work on our behalf across our electricity and gas networks around the motu. From planned project work and maintenance inspections or reactive, unplanned work there are hundreds of contractors working hard to keep the energy flowing to homes and businesses.

🛠️ If any of our contractors do mahi, like carry out inspections of our electricity assets on your property or ask for access to relight gas appliances, they will always have appropriate ID and be in branded vehicles.

💪 Building confidence, strength and fitness - one session at a time.
Through the Powerco Community Fund, we’ve supported Tūtaki / Lions Den Gym & Fitness Centre Strong Schools programme, helping bring structured fitness opportunities to primary and intermediate-aged tamariki across the Stratford district.
The support helps cover programme delivery, making it easier for schools to access the programme and for tamariki to get involved.
And the impact is about so much more than fitness. 💙 Students are showing greater confidence, stronger teamwork, increased participation and a willingness to challenge themselves and try new activities.
As one participating school shared, Strong Schools gives tamariki the opportunity to build their confidence, strength and fitness while having fun.
It’s fantastic to see Powerco Community Fund support helping create positive experiences and lasting benefits for young people in our communities. 🙌

💨🍃To our Wairarapa and Tararua customers.
MetService New Zealand has issued a strong wind warning for Wairarapa and Tararua from the early hours of Sunday morning. Severe gale west-to-northwest winds gusting 120 km/h in exposed places are predicted, which can damage trees, power lines, and make unsecured trampolines and furniture airborne (so make sure you secure them before then).
While no warning has been issued as yet, Taranaki may also experience strong winds on Sunday.

⚡ More support for energy wellbeing and healthier homes across the Bay of Plenty!

We're grateful to share that Powerco has once again invested in our 20 Degrees collaborative programme, marking four years of their support for healthier homes across the Bay of Plenty.

Their funding helps us deliver energy wellbeing workshops, free healthy home assessments, practical repairs and maintenance, and even provide hygrometers that help whānau understand the temperature and humidity inside their homes. These simple tools make it easier to see how everyday actions, like blast ventilation, can reduce moisture and create healthier living environments.

With many households facing ongoing cost pressures, helping whānau better understand and manage their energy use has never been more important.
