Taranaki and parts of the Whanganui district may experience high winds this long weekend - on Monday afternoon and overnight into Tuesday.

You know the drill:
👉🏼Tie down those trampolines and secure any loose items around the property that may blow into overhead lines, cutting power.
Keep an eye on MetService New Zealand for updates over the weekend.

👋Hello Lower Hutt

We’d like to let you know about some important work starting next week in Petone Memorial Park, Bracken Street and Memorial Park Accessway in Lower Hutt. We’re renewing the corrosion prevention equipment that protects our underground steel pipelines to preserve the quality of the gas lines into the future keeping the gas flowing safely for customers.

Traffic management will be in place as this work takes place so you may experience some disruption.

Work is expected to take approximately two weeks, weather dependent.

Thanks for your understanding as this essential work takes place.

When trees grow too close to power lines or branches fall during bad weather, they can damage the network, interrupt your power and even create a serious fire risk 🔥

That’s why it’s important to plant well away from power lines and keep nearby trees and vegetation properly maintained. At Powerco, we monitor vegetation growing near our lines and if a tree on your property gets too close, we’ll send you a friendly ‘cut or trim’ notice.

A reminder: working near power lines is extremely dangerous. Always use a qualified, approved contractor to carry out any tree work safely.

Last week, Powerco teams across our North Island offices came together in support of Pink Ribbon 🩷

Through Pink Ribbon morning teas, our teams got behind the fundraising effort with incredible baking and creative outfits, and more than $1,600 was raised to support breast cancer research and support services across Aotearoa.

We're proud to support this important kaupapa and the work being done to improve outcomes for those affected by breast cancer.

Before you get started on your next DIY job, look up. 👀⚡

Power lines and poles can be closer than you think and electricity can be deadly, without even touching it. Building, painting, roofing or pruning - look up and check what’s above before you get stuck in.

Always keep at least 4 metres clear of overhead power lines.

💜It's heartening to see local and central government joining forces to plan the housing, transport and infrastructure needs for Western Bay of Plenty - one of this country's fastest growing sub-regions and the fastest growing area on our electricity network.💡

We've teamed up with Transpower NZ, which owns and operates the national electricity grid (we own and operate the local electricity lines and cables that bring power to your street) to make sure the Western Bay will have the power it needs as more people move there, more homes are built, and local businesses grow.

⚡Between us, we have a plan to deliver nine major electricity infrastructure projects over the next decade to help keep the lights on, heat pumps humming and businesses running smoothly for generations to come. We’ll keep you in the loop as plans progress, here: www.powerco.co.nz/WBOP

If you love the gas of today, you’ll love the gas for tomorrow. So, what does the future of gas look like?
We’re exploring how renewable gases like biomethane could play a role right here in New Zealand.
Biomethane is made from organic waste. And do you know what’s the most exciting part? It can be delivered through the same network you use today.
That means the potential for a lower-emissions future, without needing to change your appliances at home.
It’s one of the ways we are thinking ahead, while continuing to support customers today.

Kia ora Ōmokoroa residents 📢

We’re looking for households interested in being part of a new energy trial.

Powerco, in partnership with EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority), is exploring smarter ways to use electricity that could help reduce peak demand, improve home comfort and make better use of the electricity network.

The trial will explore technologies such as home batteries, smart hot water systems and home energy management systems, with incentives available for eligible households.

🏡 We’re holding an information session next week to provide more details about the trial, the incentives available and answer any questions:
🕒 5.30-6.30pm, Wednesday 20 May 2026
📍 Social Space, Ōmokoroa Pavilion

If you’re interested in learning more or being involved, register your interest or get in touch here 👇

Ōmokoroa is one of the fastest growing areas on our electricity network and meeting future demand through traditional infrastructure would require significant investment.
