Vogeltown School, Te Kura o Huatoki

Vogeltown School, Te Kura o Huatoki With a steadily increasing role of 340+ year 1 - 6 students, Vogeltown School has a positive and vibrant community spirit.

The teaching staff create dynamic, fun and safe learning spaces where students thrive on quality teaching. ERO (2017) says this about Vogeltown School:

Vogeltown School caters for students in Years 1 to 6. Of the 367 students enrolled, 22% are Māori and 2% of Pacific heritage, mostly Cook Island Māori. Significant increase to the roll has occurred over the previous three years. The junior and sen

ior school are located on two separate sites. The school’s vision is for students to: make the best choices they can, become confident learners with the courage to seek a better world and aspire to heights beyond the horizon. Manaaki Tangata, Manaaki Whenua and Haere Whakamua - caring for people, caring for the land and going forward - underpin a culturally responsive curriculum. Students benefit from a wide range of curriculum experiences, including academic, sporting, cultural and educational experiences outside the classroom. Promoting student agency and encouraging greater choice in what and how children learn is being implemented in the junior school. Students identified with complex learning needs are well catered for. Individual education plans suitably reflect appropriate goals, developed with external agency specialists, parents and school staff. Transition to and from school is well planned to support individual students. For sustained improvement and future learner success, the school can draw on existing strengths in:

*the school’s clear vision and values for learner engagement and success, together with systems and processes to identify and track the progress of students at risk

*a culture of collaboration between leaders, teachers and trustees that promotes and guides ongoing school improvement.

Out-of-Zone enrolments information for Term 4 2026

Since the last ballot for out-of-zone places, the Vogeltown School Board has received enquiries from parents of out-of-zone students seeking to enrol their children at the school this year.

As the Board operates an enrolment scheme it is usually unable to enrol out of zone students between ballot periods however, as some places have become available, and there is no waiting list, the board has determined that two places are likely to be available to out-of-zone students at Year 0 for enrolment in Term 4 2026.

The Board is prepared to receive applications for these places, in addition to those it already holds, so long as they reach the school by Wednesday 9th September.

If a ballot is required, it will be held on Thursday 10th September. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

Our school cross country is planned for tomorrow, with a postponement date of Thursday 27 August if the weather isn’t suitable.

We are heading to Vogeltown Park for this event. It’s a great opportunity to make use of a community space, and it also allows our tamariki to experience the same course used for interschool cross country.

It is important to us that everyone gives this event a go and tries their best. Success will look different for each child – it’s not about being the fastest, but about putting in their best effort. For children who are unable to participate, they will either accompany their class to support others or, depending on their age, help out with jobs on the day.

Please make sure your child comes in appropriate clothing, has some food and drink for taking to the park, and shoes for walking there and back.

Classes will walk to Vogeltown Park together and children will be seated on the stands until it is their turn to race. The event is scheduled to start between 9:45am and 10.00am, beginning with our older children first.

We're still looking for more helpers so if you can lend a hand please meet for the briefing at Vogeltown Park at 9:15am tomorrow morning.

If you have any questions, please start by talking with your child’s class teacher.

We have lots of lost property at the junior school at the moment. Please take time to check over the video to see if you spot anything that belongs to you. It will be left out this afternoon for you to check at pick up time.

There is currently stop/go traffic management in place on the corner of Huatoki and Brois Sts (down the bottom of the hill from Vogeltown School).

The work is taking longer than expected and the stop/go is likely to be in place for the remainder of the afternoon. This may cause delays along Huatoki St around 3pm.
