In August, 92 individuals and families reached out for support with housing, food, and essential services. With the rising cost of living and everyday expenses increasing, more of our neighbours are needing a safe place to turn.

Thanks to the strength of our community and the dedication of our team, we were able to welcome 9 new families into transitional housing, providing stability and care when they needed it most. We also celebrated a huge milestone another 9 families moved into long-term social housing and Kāinga Ora homes, supported every step of the way by our staff and wider community partners.

Every enquiry represents a real person, a real story, and a real opportunity for us to help. Together, we’re making sure families in our community feel supported, valued, and never alone.

Can you help us make a difference?

We are currently seeking donations of queen mattress protectors, single duvet inners, kettles, microwaves, toasters, and tea towels to help support those in need. Every donation, big or small, helps create a more comfortable and welcoming space for the people we care for. Thank you for your kindness and support! 🙏

More than just new boots... It’s belief, encouragement, and community. 🫶 When James, family social worker, shared that one of the children needed a pair of football boots, Ian, our Finance Admin, and loyal Top Fan of East Coast Bays Football AFC pitched in to help! A few days later, Saad came to the office with his parents to pick up a brand new pair of boots!! Our social work team not only help to advocate for housing, they also go out of their way to support each member of the family and their individual needs where they can!

Thank you, Ian & East Coast Bays AFC for lifting this young man up and supporting his future!! He hopes to play for his home country Syria one day.⚽️🦸‍♂️

The Community Learning Centre (CLC) is an integral part of our wrap-around service. It allows for parents, seniors and teens a space to grow in confidence, learn practical skills, and establish a sense of belonging and community with one another.

Kiwi Culture & Language with English Language Partners North Shore is our most attended class each week, averaging 16 learners, 1 tutor and 3 DPH volunteers every Friday!! Attendees feel safe learning here and have enjoyed making new friends.

Some feedback from learners when asked "What do you like best about this class?"

🌎 It helps me to work and speak in a group setting. I've made many friends from different countries.

💼 This will help me when seeking for a job and the job interview.

🇳🇿 Learning about Kiwi culture. I would like to learn more about the NZ culture.

Giving Back, In Action! 🙌 Over the past month, we've had two corporate teams spend their workday volunteering at DPH!!

5 ANZ Aotearoa team members had their hands-on a variety of tasks at our Onewa site, assisting volunteer teams with sorting goods in the foodbank and household items, and supporting Tenancy team with cleaning of shared spaces.

AIA NZ Smales Farm team of 11 worked offsite cleaning and preparing 4 units for families/seniors to move in. They also helped one of the families moving into our new social housing who were very grateful for their help, stating:

"I've decided AIA actually stands for Angels In Action, they were so considerate and good humoured you'd think they worked for De Paul full time! They were all so helpful and willing, almost like a bucket-brigade lugging and loading a packed car with Tetris-like skill...Please convey my sincere thanks to them. It makes such a difference when one is stressed out to have people help out instinctively with no strings attached."

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE ❣🤝

It was a successful night that inspired many of us in the room. Guest speaker, Judge Tony Fitzgerald spoke of his work at Te Kōti o Timatanga Hou | The Court of New Beginnings sharing his journey AND proof, that establishing a connection with those who came through the court, rather than to pass judgement, was and still IS the solution to addressing the issue of homelessness for many living on the streets. An approach that Jan and DPH also follow with those who seek our help.

Thank you to Rosmini jazz band & Ben Fernandez Music for the lovely music throughout the evening. Massive Thanks to Anita and the team Sherry Kitchen for the delicious foods and exceptional service and Thank you to our good friends at Toi Toi Wines New Zealand. Many Thanks to Peter Wolfkamp for being MC at this year’s event and kept the night running smoothly!

We cannot thank Rosmini College (Official School Page) enough for being incredible hosts and providing volunteers to support with music, catering, AV, greeting and parking assistance for guests, and packing down. Likewise, Thank you to Carmel College students for your amazing help with raffle sales and catering with food service.

THANK YOU – To ALL who attended, to every individual and business who donated a prize/prizes or ticket/s, and those who purchased a ticket but couldn’t make it!! Together, we’re building a better future!

Last week, we received good news from a family in our Sustaining Tenancies programme. This family of 4 had been living in a cold house, with no proper insulation on the doors or windows, overcrowded in a 2-bedroom property with mold. They have now successfully been rehoused into a healthy, warm 4-bedroom home, where each member of the family can enjoy their own privacy and space!

Today, a young family moved into one of our transitional housing units. This family had been struggling to find safe accommodation without any family support. They now have a social worker that can help them to get back on their feet and into stable housing.

Over 812 enquiries have been received this year, with 78 of those directly from seniors (+65 years) either homeless i.e. without shelter or living rough, and those experiencing homelessness (without permanent housing).

And so, the work continues.

A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO RUCKUS & Dicker Data NZ 🐾📶 for the upgrade to new Wi-Fi access points and switches!! This gift was generously provided to us thanks to Adam – one of our landlord partners whose property has been used by us for transitional housing since 2019.

Thanks to Adam & Matt (RUCKUS Systems Engineer Manager), we now have improved our office, CLC and Playgroup centre connectivity. Not only did they improve our wi-fi coverage and provide a data map but, the team came through and spent 3 days to complete this work without disrupting our workday!

THANK YOU for this outstanding charity initiative across a complex site covering 4 buildings and up to 3 stories. We’re so thankful and blessed. We have data everywhere!
