We’re excited to share the first data from the 2023 Census.

You can go to our website and explore:

☑️ census usually resident population (the count of all people who usually live in New Zealand and were present on census night)
☑️ ethnicity data
☑️ age data
☑️ data on Māori descent
☑️ count of dwellings (the places where people live or stay).

More data will be released later in 2024, and in 2025.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2023 Census - by completing forms, or by supporting others to take part. Tatau tātou - all of us count.

The first lot of 2023 Census data is coming your way on 29 May — and you can now expect a little bit extra that day!

Thanks to good progress, we have expanded that first release to include:

☑️ ethnicity data
☑️ age data.

That is alongside the previously-announced:

☑️ census usually resident population (the count of all people who usually live in New Zealand and were present on census night)
☑️ count of dwellings (the places where people live or stay)
☑️ data on Māori descent.

There is a lot more to come after that! Later this year and through 2025, you can look forward to more 2023 Census data, including more in-depth ethnicity and age data.

As of 5pm today, we come to the end of our collection period for the 2023 Census!
NGĀ MIHI NUI from the Census Community Engagement Te Tai Tokerau Team

Massive thanks to our northland communities, stakeholders, and partners who shared this incredible journey with us. Your support and collaboration were instrumental in ensuring that we engaged with different communities across our region.

We are filled with appreciation as we reflect on the connections we made, the engagement we experienced, and the space we shared with all of you. This census would not have been successful without your active participation and invaluable contributions.

Now, as we wrap up this monumental task, we can proudly say that we have accomplished something remarkable together. The data collected through this census will shape policies, empower decision-makers, and contribute to a better future for our communities.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us connect, engage, and share this incredible journey with you all.
