West Rotoiti Fire Force is a volunteer based group of Okere Falls residents who put their time in to help protect the community. The crew train every Tuesday at 7pm till 9pm and are on call 24/7 ready to drop everything to attend house and bush fires, motor vehicle accidents, river rescues, and much more.

The fire risk across most regions of New Zealand is now extreme, and in response Fire and Emergency NZ is asking the public to be vigilant.

Fire bans are in place in Northland, Auckland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty/Central North Island, Christchurch City and Banks Peninsular, Nelson, Marlborough and Central Otago.

Last week has been pretty busy here for the Okere Falls fire brigade with 5 callouts over 5 days (2 road accidents, 2 medicals, and 1 scrub fire), all requiring a response of some degree. Looking forward to a less hectic week.
