PROJECTS HAPPENING OVER THE HOLIDAYS

Over the September holidays numerous contractors will be onsite as the school has various projects underway.

Should your children be visiting the school grounds during this time please be aware that contractors and their machinery will be working.

Cromwell Half Marathon and 10k
Saturday 17 October.
This is an out and back course starting from Alpha Street Park and heading towards Wanaka on the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail.

We have a youth category in the 10k with an entry fee of $25 per person. There is also a Teams Relay category in the half marathon for groups of 2 - 9 individuals. The entry fee for this is just $10 per team member.

Everyone who finishes will receive a medal and we have trophies for the winners of each event.

Online registration closes at 8pm on Thursday 15 October. We can also manually register teams and individuals and payment can be made on the day. If you would like to use this option, please email us at [email protected] by Thursday 15 October with the following details:

Team name
Name, age and gender of each team member.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori ~ Māori Language Week is our theme for Discovery.

Check out all the wonderful activities we found to practice Te Reo (language) and Tikanga Māori (customs).

Morena everyone.
School will have a delayed opening at 10 am today due to snow. Matakanui bus will run as usual an hour late. The Becks bus will run up the main road and pick up at the Becks Hall approx 9.30am - please check with Pauline for times if you are unsure.

Wig Wednesday today at school to support Kiwi kids with cancer. Thank you for all your donations. Everyone looked awesome with their wigs and crazy hair.

Congratulations Emma. ♥️

We’re delighted to announce the first winner of the Checketts McKay Short Story Competition 2026!

A huge congratulations to Emma Bartlett from Omakau School who has taken out first place in the Years 5–6 category with her story, Mystery in Omakau.

For her winning story, Emma received a $100 Prezzy Card and Omakau Primary School received $250!

We’d also like to congratulate our three Highly Commended young writers:

Tarn Yeoman – St Gerards Primary School - Alexandra, for The Obelisk
Madison Speight – Cromwell Primary School, for The Monster
Edie Harkness – Goldfields Primary School, for The Big Fruit

Well done to Emma, Tarn, Madison and Edie – and to every young writer and school who entered in this category. Our judges had a fantastic collection of stories to read. It was wonderful to see so much creativity and imagination from students across our region.
