Shoutout to Silver Fern Sport and Rebel Sport for providing our kura with some awesome Pass It Forward balls! It’s fantastic that our tamariki can access this equipment to stay active. Big thanks to our friends at Community Connect – Pūmanawa Āwhina for making this happen, and to our very good friend Whaea Erin for intentionally brightening our day! You all rock!

🥰 Support Staff Appreciation Week! 🤩

We made sure our support staff knew just how valued and appreciated they are for the incredible support they give to everyone in our school community. They are always willing to go the extra mile, giving their time, care, and energy so generously, and we are truly lucky to have such kind hearts helping to nurture our tamariki.

Please take a moment to say thank you. Our tamariki absolutely adore each and every one of them, and their dedication never goes unnoticed.

While learning wasn’t on the menu today, showing our learning in a creative way sure was! I was so impressed at the level of thought, creativity and collaboration that went into it.

Mōrena e te whānau,

Due to a shortage of teaching staff today, the school will remain open for student supervision only, and no educational instruction will take place. This is to support working families who may be unable to make alternative arrangements at such short notice.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

A reminder that we have 2 Staff-Only days coming up.

As these days are crucial for all of our staff to build their knowledge and practice for the curriculum refresh, we will be participating in the Ministry of Education-provided PLD for Assessment practices and our Day 3 Math.

Yum yum yum!!! 🤤🤤🤤

Our senior students have been cooking up a storm in Technology class—and it’s been so much more than just making tasty treats! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Learning to cook gives our students real-life skills that build independence, confidence, and creativity. From following recipes and measuring ingredients to working as a team and managing time, every session is packed with valuable learning.

There’s something special about seeing students take pride in what they’ve made (and even better when they get to enjoy it at the end!). Cooking also opens the door to trying new foods, exploring cultures, and making healthy choices.

We’re so proud of the way our seniors are stepping up, supporting each other, and gaining skills they’ll use for life—one recipe at a time! 🍽️

So next time whānau, get them cooking instead!

We are back at it, and giving away one $50 New World voucher each week during term 2 to a lucky whānau member who sends their child to school every day!

Congratulations to the Sheard-Ngātai whānau for this week's prize draw! 🎉🎉🎉

Thank you to our Whaea Nicki who invited us along to lay a wreath at the Onerahi Community hall for the ANZAC memorial service this morning.

It was a honour for our Rm5 students to make the wreaths for our school and the local Fire Brigade. Thank you to Whaea Monz and Whaea Audrea for your quick creative thinking. Sometimes, education is best when teachable moments take place sitting around a table in wānanga. This class works so brilliantly together and I enjoy the days that I get to step in and spend time 😁

Thank you Norah and Ariah for representing our school today, and to the Onerahi Community Association for organising such a beautiful service. 🫶

Hoods Up, Volume Down 💙

Join us on Wednesday, 29th April, 10am–11am as we support Autism Awareness in a simple but powerful way—hoods up, lights dimmed, and volume down.

By lowering noise and reducing sensory input, we help create an environment that is calmer and more inclusive. For many autistic individuals, bright lights, loud sounds, and busy spaces can lead to sensory overload. This small act of awareness helps us better understand and support those who navigate these challenges every day.

In te reo Māori, autism is often described as Takiwātanga—meaning “in their own time and space.” It reflects the idea that our tamariki experience the world uniquely, moving to their own rhythm.

Let’s stand together in respect and inclusion because at Raurimu Avenue School, everyone matters. 💙
