Opua School is closed today. The decision is based on the severe weather warning and current road blockages and the possibility of it getting worse throughout the day.

WATER LEAK REPAIR FRANKLIN STREET
The FNDC contractors have asked that we share the news that they will be working to repair a major water leak on Franklin Street today (uphill of the school). There will be significant traffic delays as they are having to close one lane.
At this stage the water will not be turned off.

Casual vacancy for parent representatives

Two casual vacancies have occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative.
The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection.
If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.

The new board will take over on the 13th of August.

A Huge thank you to the outgoing members, Glen Caulton (served for 6 years), Susannah Dorssers (served for 3 years) and Malcolm Shaft who has been on the Board since 2013 (12 Years!!).

We have been incredibly fortunate to have had their wisdom, steady leadership, and unwavering support and they have been invaluable to Simon and Sandy, our staff and our entire school community. With heartfelt gratitude, we will miss you.

Parent Election Notice
Nominations are open for the election of 5 parent representatives to the school board.
All eligible voters will receive a nomination form. Use this form to nominate yourself or someone in your community. You will also receive a nomination cover letter calling for nominations. Information on who is not eligible to be a board member is provided with this notice, and the nomination form.

If you need more nomination forms, contact the school office.

Nominations close at noon on 6th August 2025. You may provide a signed candidate statement and photograph with your nomination.
The electoral roll is held at the school and can be viewed during normal school hours.

As nominations are received, there will be a list of candidates’ names kept at the school up until election day, which you can view.

Voting closes at 4pm on 10th of September
