Well this is timely for us after yesterday!

🔥 While fire danger is expected to rise gradually through spring, strong westerly winds may bring periods of elevated fire danger in some regions

🌱 As spring progresses clear dead and dry vegetation from around buildings, make sure emergency vehicles can easily access your property, ensure water supplies are available and keep spring grass growth under control

🍃 How quickly conditions change will depend on spring weather, including temperature, rainfall, humidity, and strong winds

🏡 Now is the time to get prepared. Review your plans, talk with your community, and take practical steps to reduce fire risk before conditions become more challenging

We'd love to meet you, but not in one of the worst moments of your life. From Te Hauke to Otane to Takapau and beyond, get thru on 2.

10 fatal crashes on Central Hawke’s Bay roads over 18 months – including 7 on State Highway 2.

10 lives lost – including 8 Central Hawke’s Bay locals.

10 lives lost is 10 too many.

Today, Police are launching a six-month road policing operation, focusing on reducing road trauma on State Highway 2.

The operation will focus on targeted enforcement, prevention, education and community engagement and is being undertaken alongside NZTA, local councils and other road safety partners.

We are asking our communities to play their part.

Simple behaviours like buckling up before you travel, not getting behind the wheel if you’re impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, staying fully focused on the road without any distractions, and slowing down, are crucial in avoiding crashes and deaths.

Together, we can make our roads a safer place.
