A great training last night with Dennis setting up an off road accident scenario with a person trapped. The brigade did a great job of extraction and carrying the patient up a steep bank. Thank you Dennis Dendog Craigie

Training with the stokes basket last night

19/01/2026

Today a 22-person taskforce left for Victoria, Australia to assist with their wildfire response. The contingent is made up of 20 firefighters experienced in arduous conditions, and two liaison officers.

Out of these four firefighting crews, one is from Department of Conservation, one from the forestry industry and the other two are comprised of Fire and Emergency volunteer firefighters from brigades across the motu.

Victoria is experiencing extreme weather conditions across the state, with fires that have caused loss of life and extensive damage to homes, property and the environment.

Kia kaha to our people and the people of Australia, we’re standing behind you all the way.

🚒 Got an old car sitting around?
The Owaka Volunteer Fire Brigade needs vehicles to practice vital extraction techniques — the same ones used to save lives after a crash.

👉 We’ll collect your car, put it to good use in training, and dispose of it responsibly afterward.
Your old wheels could help our team sharpen the skills that make a real difference on the road.

💪 Want to do even more?
We’re always looking for new volunteers to join the brigade. If you’re ready to serve your community, now’s the time to step up!

Our congratulations go to the Owaka Lions Club who organised an opening day complete with Rescue helicopter, for the completion of their 50th anniversary project, the Owaka Helipad. Countless volunteer hours have gone into this project, and our brigade along with other Owaka emergency services put on a display for the public in support of this fabulous asset.
