Safety Alert

We would like to share an important safety alert following an incident this morning, particularly for school communities with rural bus routes and families in the Paengaroa, Maketu, Pongakawa, Te Puke and Rangiuru areas.

At approximately 7:55 am today (Friday 23rd October 2026), a former student was approached while waiting for the bus on Rangiuru Road. A vehicle pulled up and a man wearing a balaclava attempted to approach/snatch the student. The student ran towards home and was followed, but thankfully made it to safety.

Everyone is safe, and New Zealand Police have been notified and are actively investigating the incident.
Vehicle and suspect description:
* Vehicle: Red 2WD ute with a long deck (similar to a Ford Courier), lowered, noticeably noisy, with no number plates.
* Driver: Male wearing a balaclava.

Please share this information with your school communities as appropriate and encourage everyone to remain vigilant, particularly around bus stops, during drop-off and pick-up times, and during school breaks.
We encourage families to remind tamariki about staying alert, keeping a safe distance from unfamiliar people and vehicles, and seeking help from a trusted adult if they feel unsafe.

Rippa Rugby: just in - please note the message from the organisers - no Rippa next Wednesday!

We would like to advise all schools involved in the Paengaroa Rippa Module that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to postpone the start of the module.
The module will now begin on Wednesday 4 November. To ensure all schools still receive the full 6-week competition, the module will now conclude on Wednesday 9 December.
