Well done to our 24 students who tackled the mud, hills, and challenging conditions at the Te Puke Cluster Cross Country today! Your grit, determination, and resilience shone through on a tough course, and we are incredibly proud of your efforts. Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s newsletter, where we’ll share our top 7 placings. Apologies only limited snaps 📸 Thanks to the whānau who supported the event.

Also pictured is an awesome group of students who gave back to our community by collecting an incredible 740 moth pods today. What fantastic teamwork and service—helping to protect our local environment from these pesky plants!

2026 Moth Pod Collection Challenge
Closes on Sunday 7 June 2026

It’s that time of the year, when the invasive pest plant MOTH POD starts producing seed pods that will burst and produce hundreds of wind-blown seeds across the country. To stop this invasive plant from spreading, we have teamed up with BOP Regional Council to run the MOTH POD COMPETITION. We have some great prizes for individuals and schools who enter, so check out the information below to get involved or contact me if you have any questions. Let’s work together to protect our wetlands, dunes and native habitats. Every pod removed stops hundreds of new plants from spreading.

Community Prizes:
🥇 $300
🥈 $150
🥉 $50

School Group Prizes:
🏆 $300
Plus spot prizes up for grabs too!!

How to take part:

1. Find moth plant in your backyard or community

2. Collect pods safely (wear gloves, eye protection and long sleeves)

3. Count and photograph your pods (include your name/school and total collected), and email [email protected] by 7 June 2026

4. Double bag your pods and send to landfill or burn if appropriate. Or drop them off at 461 Wilson Rd North
