TE HARAKEKE
🌿 a versatile flax native plant found throughout Aotearoa. It has long, taiaha-shaped tipped leaves that make it easily recognisable.
🌿 Harakeke has a interesting life cycle. It produces beautiful flowers on long stalks, which are pollinated by our native manu. The plant plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by providing nectar for birds and insects.
🌿 Harakeke is vital for riparian planting. Its extensive root system helps stabilize riverbanks and prevent erosion. Additionally, it acts as a natural filter, reducing sediment runoff and improving water quality!
He aha ta matau mahi o KWTAT?
Last Friday we attended the launch of Te Kete Hononga at beautiful Manea Opononi - a kaupapa launched by Reconnecing Northland. We are very thankful for our involvement as it will provide connections to tohu that will train our team, whanau and rangatahi that move through Ko Waitangi te Awa Trust. Ngā mihi Recconecting Northland and ngā mihi to the haukainga at Manea.
Te Harakeke serves as a symbol for weaving and binding. Metaphorically, it represents the act of establishing and nurturing relationships, networking, and seizing opportunities. This concept is further exemplified through the introduction of Te Kete Hononga, a new initiative that brings people together with the knowledge needed to progress.
Kia pai to wiki e te iwi! KWTAT.
