Last night, volunteers from Papakura Coastguard joined forces with Waiuku Coastguard for a hands-on flare demonstration, giving our crews the opportunity to safely experience the use of handheld and orange smoke flares.

A big thank you to Coastguard New Zealand for supplying the flares, allowing us to carry out this valuable practical training.

There’s no substitute for seeing and using these distress signals in a controlled environment.

We all hope we’ll never have to use a flare in a real emergency, but having the confidence and knowledge is good to have

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it a safe and worthwhile evening of training.

🚨 Training Notice – Flare Demonstration 🚨

As part of our ongoing volunteer training, Papakura Coastguard will be conducting a marine flare demonstration, for our volunteers, at Bottletop Bay on Tuesday 21 July, between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

During this time, members of the public may see or hear handheld, and smoke flares being used as part of a supervised training exercise.

Please do not be alarmed—this is a planned Coastguard training activity and no assistance is required.

Regular training like this helps ensure our volunteers are prepared to respond safely and effectively when real emergencies occur on the water.

It's that time of the month again! We're back on the BBQ at Mitre 10 Takanini till 4:30pm 11/7/26 🔥🌭

If you pop in, come say G'day to the crew, take a gander at Rescue 1, grab yourself a steaming hot fresh sausage sizzle ♨️

Not to mention that our infamous bacon & egg sandwiches are making another appearance.🥓🍳
