There are just a few places left for this Friday, 28th, so register quick: Our August Kai Learn workshop will be on citrus fruit trees ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‹โ€๐ŸŸฉ. There is loads of it about at this time of year, it's dripping off trees and is often left because there is "just too much"...so it's great opportunity to learn a few things to do with it ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Our friend Pip from Love Food Hate Waste - New Zealand is back โค๏ธ and she's going to show you tips and tricks on how to deal with the overload, including how to make lemon cordial (which you can make into orange, mandarin, lime when you get home) and even a cleaner from orange peelโ€ฆall while we share some citrus home baking ๐Ÿ˜‹.

Bring a couple of clean empty jars with you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hey community, have you noticed the new furniture in front of the library? The Rodney Local Board organised it after feedback from you ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Itโ€™s there to provide a meeting place for you to gather and chat with friends or to have a wee rest as youโ€™re going up the hill๐Ÿ˜.

We were so busy eating that we forgot to photograph half the dishes we made on Friday at the Potato Workshop! From roasties with rosemary, baked potatoes with sour cream & sweet thai chilli sauce, 2 different potato salads, a mash with toasted cumin seeds, a roasted garlic smash, to our version of that favourite pizza from good olโ€™ Porcini Restaurant - onion jam topped with crispy potatoes, feta and rosemary ๐Ÿคฉ

WOWZA - that's a lot of leafy greens !!!!

Thanks to our mates Living Goodness we've had a huge delivery of 600 Wong Bok (Chinese cabbage) and Pak Choy, and they're ready for collection today (11-230) and tomorrow (9-12) from the Kai Hub, 82 Mill Road, Te Awaroa Helensville.

These delicious leafy greens are incredibly versatile and are a great way to add fresh, healthy vegetables to your meals.

๐Ÿฅข What can you make with them?
โ€ข Stir-fries
โ€ข Fried rice or noodle dishes
โ€ข Soups and broths
โ€ข Dumplings
โ€ข Fresh salads and slaws
โ€ข as a simple side
โ€ข Kimchi or quick pickles
โ€ข Add to curries or hot pots

Wong Bok is mild, slightly sweet and fantastic cooked or raw. Pak Choy is tender, crunchy and cooks in just a few minutes.

Come down and grab some asap. If you know someone who could make use of some fresh produce, please let them know too. We have plenty to share, and we'd love to see you - and what you make with it.

An update on our food scraps initiativeโ€ฆ

We are about to receive our second lot of compost from Green Out West! Previously, we used it to top up the beds in our silverbeet garden, giving the soil a well needed joosh and this time we will be utilising it in our Hub gardens as we expand our plantings around the site.

What happens: You save your food scraps and drop them in the marked bin at the Hub. Access is 24/7, the bin is at the rear of the building and is marked, we like to keep things simple!

Green Out West collect the bin each week and make lovely compost for our gardens. Sooooo, youโ€™ll be doing us a big favour by saving your scraps and popping them in the bin on your way past ๐Ÿฅฐ.
