We had a great bunch of 6 turn up today for the session in the Teaching Garden 🥰.

Lots of catching up on weeding last week meant we were able to spend the whole time today planting! Bok choi, wong bok, brassicas, beetroot and more 🥳.

If you’re interested in growing veg, come along and join in. We have knowledgeable volunteers who work alongside you as you learn 🤩.

Aaaaaand today we harvested 8kg of artichokes - or, as Murray calls them, fartichokes 😆.

When: 9.30 to 10.30(ish) 🌱🐝🦋

As demand for kai support continues to grow, we have established dedicated booking and collection times to ensure our team can provide the best possible service to you, our community.

Kai Pack bookings are taken on Monday only via text or email: 021 0915 7944 or [email protected].

Kai Pack collection times:
Tuesday: 11:30am – 2:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am – 12:30pm

These collection times are not arbitrary. They allow our team the time needed to collect, sort, prepare, and pack kai with care, dignity, and fairness for every whānau we support. They also provide essential time for planning, administration, and coordinating the many other community programmes we deliver.

Kai packs will only be distributed during the collection times listed above.

While staff or volunteers may be onsite outside of these hours, many are working on other projects and programmes and do dot have the authority to distribute them.

We kindly ask that our booking and collection processes are respected.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us make sure everyone receives the support they need.

Reminder of our food scraps initiative…it’s really important - please read 🤩

Are you coming to our Hub this week? Do you work on Mill Rd? Or go to Forge gym? Got a load to put on at the laundromat? Picking up a pizza? Popping down to the cruising club or Liberty for a quiet one?

These are all opportunities to bring in your food scraps and put them in our bin 😉. Access is 24/7, the bin is at the rear of the building and is marked, we like to keep things simple!

Do it once and then it will be easier to do it again! 😎

Green Out West will collect the bin each week and make lovely compost for our gardens. Sooooo, you’ll be doing us a big favour by saving your scraps and popping them in the bin on your way past 🥰.

Please tell your mates so they can join in too 😄.

A massive shoutout to our supporters Bob & Viv from Japonica Gardens who turn up week after week with crates and crates of mandarins!

Not only do we pass these to our clients but we supply breakfast fruit to Helensville School, Parakai school, Kaukapakapa School and Kaipara College. Each week they receive boxes of apples, bananas and nummy MANDARINS :)

A wonderful turnout on Friday for our All Things Soup workshop with David Faunch 🥰.

Hands on chopping, sautéing and stirring saw the making of a wholesome vegetable and bean soup and a traditional French onion soup complete with cheesy croutons 🤩.

David shared his chef’s tips and tricks in a fun and informative manner amongst lots of chatting and folk getting to know one another, which is what food is all about - bringing people together ❤️
