🧠 Chinese Health Seminar: Dementia Prevention & Management

TANI recently hosted our quarterly Chinese Health Seminar at Takapuna War Memorial Hall, bringing together approximately 160 community members for an informative session focused on dementia prevention and management.

We were pleased to welcome Sharon, Programme Manager for IDEA at the University of Auckland, who shared practical, easy-to-understand information about brain health and how it supports memory, mood and independence.

The session highlighted the importance of early lifestyle intervention, including healthy eating, regular physical activity, quality sleep, staying socially active and managing dementia risk factors. Participants also took part in practical demonstrations of physical and cognitive exercises to support brain function, followed by an engaging discussion.

As part of our commitment to promoting better health outcomes in our communities, TANI staff also provided a short presentation on the Breast Screening Programme, highlighting the importance of early detection, how breast screening can help save lives, and where eligible women can access this free service.

The feedback from attendees was very positive, with many saying they gained useful knowledge and practical strategies to support brain health and reduce dementia risk. Participants also described Sharon’s presentation as professional, detailed, informative, easy to understand and practical.

A big thank you to Sharon for sharing her knowledge and expertise, our dedicated volunteers for supporting us on the day, and everyone who joined us. Your support helps us continue bringing valuable health information and services to our communities. πŸ’™
