Recently, The Asian Network (TANI) hosted its Regional Network Meeting at the Western Springs Community Garden Hall, bringing together service providers, NGOs, and community members for a meaningful and informative hui.

Dr. Stephanie D’Souza from Auckland University of Technology shared valuable insights into perinatal depression, highlighting its long-term impacts on Asian and MELAA mothers in Aotearoa and the urgent need for more culturally responsive maternal health support systems.

Ivy Liang and Shirley Chen from Asian and Ethnic Health Services also presented the Healthy Mother Healthy Babies programme, which supports pregnant Asian women and mothers through workshops, counselling, social support, and health education initiatives.

We were honoured to welcome the India In Auckland - Consulate General of India, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, to the meeting. Dr. Sethi acknowledged TANI’s journey and recognised the significant contribution the organisation continues to make towards the wellbeing of broader Asian and ethnic communities across Aotearoa. We sincerely appreciate his encouragement and ongoing support for our kaupapa.

Attendees were also provided with important election information and breast screening resources to support informed decision-making and community wellbeing. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, shared their experiences, and contributed to the discussions. We hope the session provided valuable insights, meaningful connections, and useful networking opportunities for all involved.

CALL FOR A PUBLIC HEALTH CAMPAIGN!

We humbly urge for an urgent public health campaign to help families to learn about the use of sleeping pods for little bubbas. For migrant, refugee and other CALD communities, it becomes further difficult to access the right information. Our heart goes 💔 out for the parents of this little one. Preventable loss of beautiful life :(

In recognition of World Parkinson’s Day on 11 April, TANI organised an online kōrero on 17 April via Zoom to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The session was delivered by the TANI Health Promotion Team.

A total of 45 community members attended and engaged in discussions on recognising early warning signs, understanding the differences between the conditions, and knowing when to seek support from a GP. Feedback was positive, with participants reporting increased knowledge, greater awareness of healthy lifestyle approaches, and learning practical strategies to support prevention, management, and people living with these diseases.

Join us tomorrow for another Health Kōrero. This time we will be sharing tips on simple and effective ways to improve your living environment and take care of your gardening during the colder months.
