Tūī Class have been learning how to write invitations.
They have been learning about the important information an invitation needs to include, such as who, when, and where.

Spring is blooming in Toroa! 🏵

For Daffodil Day and the beginning of spring, Toroa got creative with some beautiful daffodil artwork.

We coloured daffodils using bright crayons, then added salt and dye to create some texture. Once dry, the art was oiled to make it transparent, ready to brighten up our classroom windows as part of our spring display. For contrast, we also created zentangle daffodils, using different patterns and details.

We also created our own spring poems, thinking about the sights, sounds and feelings that come with the new season.

Our classroom is definitely starting to feel like spring! 🏵

📖✨ A very special visitor in Whānau Ata! ✨📖

Whānau Ata were incredibly lucky to welcome a very special guest this morning — the wonderful author Elaine Bickell!

Elaine shared some of her beautiful stories with us, answered the children’s questions about what it’s like to be an author, and inspired our tamariki to discover the joy of reading and storytelling. Even more exciting, we were given a sneak peek at Elaine’s brand-new book, which is coming out later this year!

A huge thank you to Elaine for generously giving her time to spend the morning with us. We feel very blessed to have had such a special opportunity to meet you, hear your stories and be inspired by your love of books.

Kōtare Class Dance Challenge 💃🕺

Our Year 7-8 students have been putting their dancing skills to the test with an in class dance competition!

Over the past few weeks, students have explored a huge range of dance styles, from breakdancing and ballet to 80s and disco, along with a variety of cultural dances.

It has been awesome seeing students step outside their comfort zones, learn new routines, get creative and, most importantly, have fun! Many students even had the chance to learn each other’s routines and share their moves with the class.

Tīwaiwaka class is learning about persuasive writing, which involves coming up with persuasive arguments. To practice, we play the "Persuasion Game." Students have only 2-3 minutes to come up with a 10-30 second speech, with at least 3 arguments to make their point. Here's James with last week's winning speech "Why New Zealand is the best country."

📚 Book Day Magic! ✨

On Wednesday, we celebrated Book Day! 📖✨ Students came dressed as their favourite book characters, it was wonderful to see such a fantastic variety of characters, costumes and creativity come alive throughout the school.

From much-loved classics to more unusual and imaginative characters, there was so much effort and enthusiasm on display. 💫

🏉 Congratulations, Hunter & Emelio! 🏉

A huge congratulations to Hunter, who will be representing Ngā Hau E Whā Under 10s, and Emelio, who will be playing for Te Aroha Māori Under 11s, at the Aotearoa New Zealand Māori Rugby League Tamariki Tournament in Rotorua this September! 🌟

What an awesome achievement for both boys! We’re so proud to see you representing your teams and taking part in such a special tournament. 💪

Over the past three weeks, our students have been busy learning new skills, getting creative, and making some amazing projects!

🪡 Our Year 7 students have been learning how to sew in Fabric Technology, creating their very own wheat packs. From threading needles to stitching everything together, they've shown fantastic perseverance and should be proud of what they've achieved!

🎨 Our Year 8 students have been putting their creativity to work, crafting a variety of awesome creations including key chains, notebooks, jewellery, and pin puppet toys. Each project has showcased their imagination, growing confidence, and developing craftsmanship.
