In 1903 the Pukerua station building was a very small ‘shelter shed.’ Pukerua was a “flag station” where “Passengers wishing to alight from Trains that stop at Flag Stations must give notice to the Guard at the previous stopping station.”

He Ara Pukerua won the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards Porirua award for Heritage and Environment on Wednesday night! We are very grateful to all those who have contributed to our research, liked and commented on our Facebook and website posts as well as the heritage panels around the Bay. Thanks also to those who have contributed designs, ideas and encouragement. Winning this, along with the accompanying boost to our bank account, is quite special as we celebrate our tenth birthday this year.

𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗮 𝟭𝟱-𝟮𝟭 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁
Earlier in the year the Year 4 Te Pari Pari tamariki at Pukerua Bay School listened to 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠 story. The many encounters the Bevan children experienced generated intense classroom discussion.
After a break, Isaac the book illustrator, took along all the “people” he had made to illustrate the story and showed the class how to go about constructing a diorama. Working in groups of two or three they made their own scenes. They are amazing and so worthy of display in the newly refurbished supper room of the Pukerua Bay Hall.

This evening He Ara Pukerua was presented with a certificate in recognition of a grant we received from the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust. Anita Baker, Mayor of Porirua, made the presentation.
