This one's for the Choctolate Lovers! 🩵 Head down to Pātaka to check out Unwrapped: Whittaker’s since 1896.

This exhibition invites Chocolate Lovers behind the scenes to discover how a local maker became a global name.

What began as J.H. Whittaker’s small family business in 1896 has grown into a world-class chocolate manufacturer, still proudly family-owned four generations on and based in its original Porirua factory.

The exhibition unwraps the story of New Zealand’s Most Trusted Brand and features objects to delight all the senses. Visitors will encounter nostalgic memorabilia and classic advertising, a scent station that reveals chocolate’s layered aromas and artworks made in collaboration with contemporary creatives.

Check it out! On from 8 August 2026–28 February 2027 at Pātaka.

Why not take a stroll along The Writers Walk, found on the harbour’s edge around Wi Neera Drive 📚

Developed in partnership with Porirua Community Arts, this scenic walk celebrates the rich legacy of writers and playwrights from around Porirua.

It features a stunning carved Pou that represents Te Rangihaeata of Ngāti Toa, a nephew of Te Rauparaha, and sculptures honouring writers Patricia Grace, DCNZM, Michael King, OBE, Alistair Te Ariki Campbell and author Elizabeth Knox.
