Looking for a hike that's both challenging as it is beautiful? Head for the Escarpment Track! Stretching from Pukerua Bay to Paekākāriki, the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is on the must-do list for adventurous walkers. With lots of steps and steep terrain, fitness is essential.

Breathtaking views are the reward for those up to the challenge.

The Escarpment Track is part of Te Araroa, New Zealand's famous hike that runs the length of the country.

Rising from the ashes of—literally—an abandoned brewery in Lower Hutt, Abandoned Brewery is doing its part to put Porirua on the map as a top beer lover’s destination.

It’s the kind of place where the kids and dogs are as welcome as their parents, where you can kick back with a drink without having to be a craft beer nerd.

Try something different these July school holidays with a special journey on a steam train! 🚂

On Sunday 12th July 2026, break the school holiday boredom and join Steam Incorporated onboard a heritage train for a brilliant steam train ride for the whole family.

Trains are operating all Sunday between Paekakariki and Porirua, a beautiful scenic run along the Paekakariki Escarpment on the Kapiti Coast.
