On my way to the SS4C Rally on 5 April.
Disappointed with the rally. It felt like the climate came third, after Palestine and ti Tiriti.
Climate change is real, and it demands a broad, consensus approach. That won't come from the SS4C leadership, despite its good intentions.
We almost need a social contract in climate action, by which the whole population feels committed to actions that benefit all of us, and our Pacific neighbours. This may arise from dire necessity (perhaps from world economic or financial collapse) or it may grow out of democratic processes, including Citizens Assemblies .
James Shaw's greatest achievement was gaining cross party support for Zero Carbon. Luxon is still formality keeping that target. Any further progress we make on climate action will be made by consensus or it will be short lived.
So, where to from here?
I'll be working within Labour to promote this approach. Keen to hear from others with similar plans....
