REAL PRACTICAL POLICY

CAN DO ….

I WANT TO PROMISE YOU 3 PRACTICAL things.
In the last 3 weeks visiting retailers have been told me their many brilliant ideas, I heard suggestions, and had a couple of complaints. I want to make a difference.

The small business is essential for us all. Businesses, As Council customers and stakeholders, deserve regular friendly involvement.
Three commitments IF elected,

1. Talking to Retailers. Regular contact as an important part of our Towns. If elected I will, or someone else from Council will, check in for a regular friendly visit to retailers (once or twice a year), IN Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Oxford and the rest of the District and I will see all other businesses are emailed, to see how they are going. Ideas, problems, frustrations. Rather than wait for you, I will come to listen.

2. Making Rangiora a destination. Rangiora and our streets and lanes, businesses, and charm is fabulous. We need to get more funds from outside our district. I want to explore with you, whether we can theme Rangiora to attract visitors. Rangiora should be a destination. Without spending money let’s look at what will bring customers…. Classic cars, Fashion, children and tots shops, …… specific annual events marketed broadly…..
AND SUPPORT Kaiapoi fabulous growth in the same way as needed.

3. Recommending Activities and Promotions particularly in mid winter 2026. We all know winters are slow here, what can we do Annually to get more people in town. If elected I will advocate for this. Stuff

Oh and to the passenger guy who yelled a question out as the car drove passed, I’m still campaigning because we’ve only had just under 20% of the vote returned, AND I’m enjoying meeting people and listening.

I’ve talked to many residents and retailers, and I already have 7 or 8 things I’d like to explore if I’m elected. One thing I think we should do is listen more. We aren’t in a city, we can talk and listen.
